Texas: A man lost his life while waiting to pick up his wife at work Wednesday afternoon.
It happened around 3:30 p.m. at the Service Wire Co. at 7207 North Loop East near Wayside.
Workers were evacuated after a gunman dressed in black opened fire at Service Wire Co.
But one man did not get away. While waiting for his wife, he was shot in the head in a breakroom.
HPD detectives say the murder was caught on tape.
Surveillance showed a male worker shooting the victim and a group of employees described as heroes jumping in.
Officers said the employees wrestled the gunman to the ground and took the gun away. They kept him detained until police could arrive.
The company, which manufactures industrial wire, would not say if they have had other problems with the employee, but they did say the shooting came as a complete shock.
“No apparent motive, no apparent dispute and nothing we can determine that would really set this off. No reason or cause we can understand,” co-owner Seth Weisberg said.
But the tragic event left many workers stunned, including one employee, who said he had known the victim for years.
“He was an excellent man. I mean, one of the greatest guys you’d ever want to lay eyes on. I can’t figure what happened to him, and why did it happen,” he said.
He wasn’t alone. Many were left questioning why the victim’s life was taken late into the night Wednesday. Authorities still had no motive.
But HPD investigators say the suspect had multiple clips with him, and probably intended to kill many more people.
