Presidential Nominees

I think the future for citizens that support the 2nd amendment looks bad to me. I see and hear about politians wanting stricter gun laws, to re-enstate the assault rifle ban, and Obama's stupid idea to restrict all semi-auto guns. It seems that these anti-gun groups are getting stonger every day, and the politians are trying to please their demands. Im a LE, and I know that the more responsible citizens that own firearms, the safer our society will be. What these anti-gun groups fail to recognize is that the criminals could care less about the laws they impose. So what they are accomplishing is disarming the good, law abiding citizens. This in turn, makes my job more dangerous and also endangers the lives of everyone else. Is there a canidate out there that will help stop the movement against my 2nd amendment rights that I don't know about. Because honestly, it seems like the front runners in the polls don't share my opinion on the matter.

This has always been their goal. In 20 years we will be "subjects" and no longer "citizens"....we have done it to ourselves.

Ron Paul is completely against gun control.

This is an eye-opening book ... Freedom Under Siege, by Ron Paul. Or, there's a PDF copy over on Paul's web site: click here. Basically, it's Ayn Rand's predictions come to life.

Though, in reality, nothing in it's a surprise. We've all sensed it, like frogs slowly boiling in the pot. But this book's a short, lucid synopsis of the basic reality of the modern tyranny and usurping of core rights of citizens in the U.S. by the U.S. government.

Unfortunately, there is virtually no chance of Paul getting elected. And because of Bush being president, It seems to me that the democrats are going to have an advantage in the 2008 election. And from what I can see the front runners for the democrats are Obama and Clinton. Which Is bad for gun owners if either are elected.

Shrug, have to try at least. I'm registering Republican to help. Which is definitely a first for me.

He's the only candidate I see so far that literally won't hurt 2nd Amendment rights at all. That's worth my support. Especially considering I like his stance on other issues.

Pro-2A candidates are definitely fewer in number, but I think there are more than just Ron Paul.

Hopefully, someone who is actually electable, yet will still protect the constitution, will show up. If it comes down to McCain or Giuliani vs. Clinton or Obama, we're boned no matter what.

Moral of the story - Stock up now, fight for the best, and prepare for the worst.

I hope that a very pro-gun candidate does show up but I'm not real hopeful.

I will make a prediction, however. I believe that neither Obama nor Clinton is ultimately electable. I think they will both self destruct in some way and a new "steath anti-gunner" will emerge as the Democratic front runner.

While I generally disagree with many of their policies, the Dems are not stupid. Their candidate will be very low key about gun control until they get elected and are in a position to act.

Unfortunately, I think that McCain and Giuliani will be the front guys for the Republicans. If so, you're right. We are boned.

There may be hope for Paul or Fred Dalton Thompson (if he ultimately decides to run). I remember when Slick Willie came on the scene. Most of the people I know were saying, "who is this guy from Arkansas to think he could actually win".

He came out of nowhere. This could happen to Ron Paul (slim chance, but possible). I think Thompson would have a great chance if he would run.

I thought I was worried about Kerry running last time. For this election, I will need lots of Maalox.

Politics as it relates directly to the 2nd Amendment.

Just Because all the politicians decided to go for an early "burn out" does not mean that we're looking for that to happen here. :biggrin2:

I would encourage any Republicans to go here and sign the petition to try and get Fred Thompson to run for President. I truly believe he may be the most "electable" candidate we could put forth and the possibility of Hilary as President scares the :cussing: out of me.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but . . . . . sure would help me sleep at night if he were to announce.

I hope Thompson or Newt Gingrich make a run for it. It is not only your gun rights at risk. It is the possible enslavement of our people if the appeasers win. We may elect politicians who are only interested in the subjugation of people so as to assure their positions forever. They do this by getting all the voters possible on the dole then when that plays out as it must we go into the dictatorship of the proletariat and on down the road to perdition. Then it is possible that the reason for our forefathers wanting the Second Amendment evolves. Then there comes the real revolution and we must overthrow the tyrants. We don't want this bloody mess to happen. Vote for the folks that want less government and will defend what we have from foreign intrusion. You decide. I know who it is not. It is not Hilliary or Obama. Both of them are socialists.

I would agree with the posters above that Fred Thompson could be the best Second Amendment candidate. His views are well known from his service in the US Senate, and I believe that he is mature and honest, with good judgement. He reminds me a little of Ronald Reagan. I believe that he is electable, and that he could beat either Hillary or Obama.
