Obama: Reinstate AWB...(MERGED)
Obama Bemoans 'Epidemic of Violence'
Sunday, July 15, 2007
Standing before a church congregation that has witnessed inner-city violence firsthand, Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said Sunday that more must be done to end a social ill that is "sickening the soul of this nation."
Obama told churchgoers at the Vernon Park Church of God on Chicago's South Side that too many young lives are being claimed by violence and more must be done to combat the problem.
"From South Central L.A. to Newark, New Jersey, there's an epidemic of violence that's sickening the soul of this nation," the Illinois senator told the crowd. "The violence is unacceptable and it's got to stop."
Nearly three dozen Chicago students have been killed this year, according to Chicago Public Schools. Obama said that figure is higher than the number of Illinois serviceman who've died in Iraq in 2007.
"We need to express our collective anger through collective action," Obama said.
He said the government needs to permanently reinstate an assault weapons ban and close regulatory loopholes that protect unscrupulous gun dealers.
He also said government should support and fund more after-school programs to keep kids off the streets. But some of the burden must also be shouldered by residents who need to do more to raise and protect at-risk children, he added.
"We have an entire generation of young men in our society who have become products of violence, and we are going to have to break the cycle," Obama said. "There are too many young men out there who have gone down the wrong path."
He later added, "There's a reason they go out and shoot each other, because they don't love themselves. And the reason they don't love themselves is because we are not loving them enough."
I am not feeling the love.

Translation: 'We' are responsible, 'they' are not. Inner city murderers are obviously without sin.
IMO murderers need to be 'lovingly' executed.

The murders he refers to were not committed by persons with ARs and flashhiders or bayonet lugs.
The Assault Weapon ban would have zero impact on the murder rate in his city or state and those persons murdered would not be living as they were killed with knives and handguns.
Obama needs to focus his energies and exasperation not on sword but the minds and mindset of the brain that controls the hand which wields the sword.
He comments to this but not toward the now huge 'No Snitching' fad that is stymying police investigations nationwide. Why is it that children are killing children in his zone, that is the question.
Without firearms folk will continue to kill be it with knives, baseball bats (e.g. NY & Boston), machete (e.g. MS-13), or hell for that matter shod feet.
What then, Obama?
Do we ban Cutco knives, Louisville Slugger bats, garden & farming tools, and Timberland brand boots too?

imagine that, in the same article, he proposed bigger government with social programs for kids.
these guys don't care that they are slowly destroying our nation. they just care about getting votes, power, and money. all of these politicians are intelligent enough to realize what is right and what is not on some level...they just don't take them into consideration...AT ALL.

Obama and others need to understand the research data, before they shoot their mouths off and propose commission of crimes against the Constitution.
The U.S. Dept. of Education's National Center for Education Statistics reports a bit different picture than Obama's "sky is falling" portrayal: Indicators of School Crime & Safety.
During the height of "Just Say No" and the McGruff doggie's "Take A Bite Out Of Crime" and the last socialist AWB, a school-aged child (5-18yrs) had a 0.008% chance of dying violently (including suicide). Fast-forward to the 2003-2004 school year, and the probability had dropped to 0.005% (2700 out of 54M school-aged children, nationwide). That's funny, but maybe the Illinois restrictions on weapons didn't have the effect he seems to think it did. The CDC, the U.S. Dept of Education, the U.S. Dept. of Justice and others don't seem to speak Obama-jam or Shrillery. Good thing, too. Neither do I.

To me it doesn't seem that any of the politicians are concered about what they do and how it will effect the nation anymore. It seems like they just want to stomp out the other party and anything and everything that they stand for. And as stated above... it's all about the money and the power. Screw the people. Unless they're worth a vote they aren't worth crap.
What is our great nation coming to? It makes me sad.

um...excuese me, but that kind of rational logic is not welcome on the campaign trail. Please refrain from making any kind of sense...it really throws off the candidates.

The scary thing is that people will be willing to vote for this. They will come up with replies such as "We need a change in government", or "George Bush is ruining our government, therefore I would rather deal with this instead of what we have now". What need to ensure is that when we see garbage like this, that we help educate our local friends and neighbors as to the fact that one must not vote against one person because of the way things are being run, but one must vote FOR the ideas and philosophies that a particular individual would bring.
Unfortunately, both the Republican and Democrat parties have done a fine job of polarizing our political process to where it is "one or the other". I am a firm believer in the role of Limited Government, Limited Taxes, and a healthy respect of the Constitution.
Is it too much to ask? I hope not.
