    Gun control working in Philadelphia

Looks like Philly is a darn good place to start a career as a criminal. It's safe enough now that even your middle school kids can steal enough for the whole family's crack habit. Good job Mr. Mayor!

Penn Warns Of Teen Groups Harassing, Robbing Students, Staff
    WCAU-TV 3:16 p.m. EDT July 16, 2007

The University of Pennsylvania Police Department issued a warning about an increase in groups of juveniles walking through the University City area harassing, assaulting or robbing residents as well as students and staff. There have been six incidents since July 3 in the Penn patrol zone, involving the juveniles, who police said have been reported to be mostly boys ranging in age from 9 to 13.

The incidents have occurred from 4:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in the following locations: 33rd and Chestnut streets; the 3700 block of Locust Walk; and the 4000 and 4200 blocks of Locust Street. One similar incident was also reported in the vicinity of Drexel University, at 35th and Spring Garden streets.

Penn officials told NBC 10 that they believe different teens, not one roving group, have been involved with the incidents. At least two boys were arrested in connection with the incident on the 4200 block of Locust Street, university police reported.

Students and staff were being asked to report any suspicious activity or information regarding the incidents to the university police department by calling 511 from a campus phone, 215-573-3333 from off-campus or cell phones, or by picking up any blue light emergency phone.

When traveling in areas outside the Penn patrol zone, calls should be made to 911, university police advised. They, in conjunction with Philadelphia police, Penn Security Officers and University City District Safety Ambassadors have increased patrols in University City.
University police said both covert and overt police patrols are being used, including virtual video patrols in targeted areas.

Additional safety and security services offered by Penn's Division of Public Safety, the Division of Business Services and the University City District, include:
    • Walking Escorts: 215-898-WALK (9255) -- Walking Escort boundaries extend from 30th Street - 50th Street, Spring Garden Street to Woodland Avenue
    • Penn Transit: 215-898-RIDE (7433) -- 6 p.m. to 3 a.m.: *On-call for emergencies, 3 a.m. to 7 a.m.; boundaries are 50th Street to 20th Street and Spring Garden Street to Woodland Avenue -- http://www.penn.edu/transportation/
    • UPPD Detective Unit: 215-898-4485/87517
    • For safety presentations, contact the Office of the Vice President, at 215-898-7515

including virtual video patrols in targeted areas.
wow, "video patrols". The people in those areas must feel super-safe knowing someone can watch them get robbed and beaten, possibly killed.

No, but the criminals probably do it on a 50:1 ratio to the law abiding.

Oh, thank heavens. Now when the BG attack you with their REAL guns, police can protect you with their VIRTUAL ones.

Maybe the good politicians of Philly will get mugged and robbed and assaulted like the good politicians of DC did after they banned guns.

That doesn't happen. The politicians rarely get robbed or mugged. The elite ride to work and go places with their security.

I once saw a news story on NYC mayor Bloomberg bragging about how he rides the subway to work. They showed a clip of him getting on the subway with four security people - all NYC plain clothes police officers.

No need for fear there. Now, they may get into trouble visiting some of the ladies of the evening, but that's a different crime.

    Cool

So I see on the news 5 more killed in Phili, the city of Love.
Three were in a bar and the other two were unrelated.
Brings the total for the year to 232.
At least that's what the ticker on Fox News said.

Funny, I never did want to live there. Would never live in Baltimore either.

Could say I'm fine right where I'm at.

9 to 13 years old?! Who needs a gun with them? I'd just carry a paddle.

I thought it was the city of brotherly love. Doesn't that just mean that brothers don't kill each other? Everyone else is fair game.

These 'kids' may very well have guns, and no doubt have plenty of knives and blunt force weapons. If you take this type of attack by a gang as a very minor thing because of their age, you are not thinking clearly.

Wolves rarely eat their own, especially when there are so many sheep around.
Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men.
