So the big question is how do we arm the other ten?

Just tell her that someone was just born in a small town in your state and you need, as a true American gun owner, to pick up the slack for the newborn. Tell her the newborn's family can't afford a gun. That way, there will be 101 people and 100 guns, a reason to buy another. That excuse should work. If not, let me know and I will get another in the name of the kid.

Our goal should be at least 200 guns for every person. After all, doesn't everyone need a BUG?

Interesting.......so I guess Nigeria and Latin America just got the "mean" guns. You know the ones that kill people by themselves. These figures completely shoot down the theory of "guns cause violence".

90 guns for every 100 Americans...........

    That's sad!

That means there are 60 people unarmed because of me!

    Oh well...........doom on them!

I think other people should start pulling their own weight.....
and I'm only accounting for 14 people, I've got to increase the percentage myself

+1 on Israel not being listed and the fact that the areas "well known for violence" have low amount of weapons in citizen's hands
and China has that many firearms in civilian possession? I find that VERY hard to believe (of course the gov't could say here is your weapon for this survey....then take it away that afternoon lol)

Yeah, but the practical reality is that (a) you can only have one or two in use at the time of an attack and (b) a large percentage of folks either won't have timely access or won't use it/them in an attack.

I'd think the real benchmark measure should be, if viewed from the perspective of the inbound attacker: how hard of a target is person X, given the gun(s) he/she has? That "hardness factor" is about all the matters. The rest is inference and conjecture based on a gross number. Almost by definition, little can be made of that number.

Now this is a statistic to be proud of but there's always room for improvement... other than the great satisfaction of being number 1, I think it's more satisfying knowing that them socialist lib's squirm when the read reports like this.

I read a very different version of that news in an article that appears in the 8/29/07 edition of The Palm Beach Post.

Overall it did not say much that was negative or alarmist about gun ownership, and at the end, the last two paragraphs were given over to an expert or researcher who came right out and said that there is NO steady correlation between large numbers of guns and crime! He said that you can't really conclude that high rates of gun ownership result in high rates of crime, and pointed to Latin America, which has low gun ownership rates and still has astronomical crime!

I found the version of the news that I read very gratifying, actually -- all the more because it appeared on page two of a very left-leaning paper that editorially hates guns...

I think it's kinda cool that we get a lot of GREAT weapons from countries that don't even allow their own people to have them, or are very restrictive.

Look at the GLOCKS and HKs and Steyrs we get, the CZs, the FNs, even the Norincos!

I went back and re-read the article. It talks about the unequal distribution of firearms. To a certain point the article is correct, the real problem is the unequal distribution of freedom and of self-determination.

BUT still we can do better as Americans. I wonder if they didn't count all those that aren't supposed to be in the US if the number would be higher. I guess one can only hope.
