CLEVELAND — Cleveland's mayor called on the state Monday to create a new law that would prohibit anyone under age 21 from possessing a firearm.

Mayor Frank Jackson's proposal followed the shooting death last week of a 12-year-old girl who was hit by a stray bullet as she walked to a corner store. He noted that police statistics from 2004 to 2006 show 70 percent of those arrested for crimes involving firearms were under 28.

Under Ohio law, no one under 18 is permitted to purchase a firearm. A person must be at least 21 to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
I fail to see how this new law will do anything whatsoever. His own statistics set the age at 28! How long before he decides to raise it to 25, then 28, then 35 (you get the idea)?

"Stray bullet" ..... almost for sure from some gang banger shootout - and unlikely to have been a legal gun owner.

As for the rest of his 'proposal' - he really needs to get real. It appears he is a grade A1 maroon.

Good guess. It doesn't even appear to have been an under-age gunman.

CLEVELAND -- A 12-year-old girl on her way to a corner store was caught in the crossfire of a gun battle between two men and was shot in the neck and killed, police said.

Astevee Thomas, known to her friends as "Cookie," was walking down a tree-lined side street Saturday afternoon when two men began chasing each other while firing guns.

Bystanders scrambled to get out of the way, but one bullet hit Thomas, and she fell on a nearby porch, witnesses said.

Because then he would have to 'hassle' BG's...it's much easier and safer to 'hassle' the honest citizen?

You can't expect much from Cleveland. They have tried to fight the CCW law since it was passed. They also tried to get cleveland cops to arrest people carrying LEGALLY.

Even the "Garbage Dealer" knows that this is not the solution.
"A solution to the epidemic of youngsters with guns must come, in large part, from the community. There will never be enough police on the streets if parents can't, or won't, police their own children.

And as long as kids believe violence solves problems, we all lose - no matter what laws are on the books. "

And by the way, they caught the maroon, "Big Willie" in Montana. The fact that he was out on the streets, and able to be in the shootout that killed this little girl is another story. The police already had him and let him go because of a snafu in the paperwork...... Bad situation all the way through. A new gun law won't help.

As seedoubleyou noted, the suspect in the murder of the girl, Eric "Big Willie" Wilson, was arrested on Tuesday in Kalispell, Montana, after a high speed chase.

Ohio murder suspect appears in Kalispell court

As we first reported Tuesday night, a man accused of killing a 12-year-old girl in Cleveland, Ohio, has been captured in Kalispell after trying to escape police on foot. 35-year-old Eric "Big Willie" Wilson had been wanted since the September 1st shooting death of 12-year-old Cookie Thomas. She was struck in the neck by a stray bullet in the crossfire of a gun fight while walking in her Cleveland neighborhood.

Wilson was arrested Tuesday by Flathead County Law enforcement, after a vehicle and foot chase ending in a crash that sent one woman to the hospital. According to the Cleveland FBI office, Wilson also pulled a weapon on a police officer. Today Wilson was seen by a Flathead County Judge. He faces extraditing charges of aggravated murder along with weapons and drug charges in Cleveland.

Wilson was stopped earlier Tuesday in Browning, and gave an alias, which turned out to be a name of a person wanted in Iowa.

Wilson will also face a criminal endangerment charge put forth by the Flathead County Attorney's office. His next court date is set for September 27th in Kalispell. An extradition hearing will follow in October. Bond is set at 1.25-million dollars.

The FBI's been looking for Eric "Big Willie" Wilson for ten days after he and another man got into a gunfight in a Cleveland neighborhood. A 12-year-old girl was caught in the crossfire, shot in the neck, and killed.

Browning police pulled him over Monday night, but he drove off, leading authorities on a chase that ended in Kalispell when police put down spike sticks to stop him. Wilson's car swerved into oncoming traffic in Kalispell slamming head-on with two cars, and sending one woman to the hospital.

The FBI used a federal fingerprint system to positively identify Wilson. Wilson has previously served prison time for drug trafficking, assault and carrying a concealed weapon.

Yeah, what Mayor Jackson neglected to mention was that the gun fight took place with illegal guns. A felon can't legally even touch a gun, much less own one. His new proposed legislation would not have made what took place any more illegal or less likely to take place. What he really should propose is putting bad guys in jail & leaving them there until they start doing something useful for society - pushing up daises.

What a fool...does he really think more laws will prevent criminals from committing crime?
