MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Classes at the University of Memphis have been canceled Monday after a football player was fatally shot late Sunday night on the school's campus.

Taylor Bradford, 21, of Nashville was shot in the chest and pronounced dead a short time later at the Regional Medical Center. The school newspaper, the Daily Helmsman, identified the victim.

The man had apparently walked out of the dormitory where he lived and was in his car when the shooting occurred. The car ran into a tree a short distance from the campus.

The victim was a member of the university's football team, WMC-TV reported. The station also reported the dorms were locked down after the shooting took place.

There were no immediate arrests.
