    Interesting 2A Discussion Last Night

I was at a dinner party last night with 20 or so folks. A few of us settled into a corner and engaged in a discussion of politics and the presidential race. As we were discussing B.O., I brought up my disdain for his views on concealed carry and the 2A in general. One of the group, a former state legislator and prosecuter from OK said, and I quote, "What's the 2nd amendment?". I thought he was joking but, my friends, he was not. I was shocked!

There was, however this individual was well in to his 60's and seemed to be responsibly sipping a glass of white wine.

The other interesting point about the discussion was that he went on to say that he had no problem with citizens having/carrying guns, but didn't like the fact that they could do so concealed. Of course I asked him the rhetorical question of "what do you think the bg would do in an open carry state?". The funny thing was I was having this discussion with my Glock 30 IWB at 3:30. No, I don't drink.

Did you say “2A” literarily? Maybe he was not familiar with “2A” in reference to the “Second Amendment”? Gee wiz I hope so.

I live here in OK and have been here about 6 years now. This is a pretty conservative state (bar OKC and the college towns) and very gun friendly. The governor here is a Democrat, but is actually more gun friendly than a lot of the Republicans we see out there.

The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. It is about keeping the government in check. This requires that the citizenry is well armed and at all times has immediate access to arms.

That is completely unbelievable. Maybe that is why they keep making more and more redundant laws, because they do not know what is there already.

Was he from the Tulsa area? Have to remember they are still upset over the fact that a "cowtown" OKC is the state capitol and not them!! Having lived in OK fro 17 years there is a BIG difference in the attitudes of NE corner of the state and the rest of it.

Maybe there should be a literacy and/or civics class prerequisite for political office.

    A legislator and prosecutor?

Sad state of affairs, but I fear, way too common. It's like those 'dangerous shrouds'...

Unfortunately I said "the second amendment" - I only used 2A in my post to abbreviate. Proof that we all should consider it our adjunct role to educate and discuss 2A issues openly.

    Have a good night all.

We didn't get that deep into the conversation - not sure which part of the state he hailed from.
