    Goodwill from Gun Owners

I was sitting around last night and had just finished reading this article:

Vandals Shoot At Windmills, Causing $14K In Damage - Denver News Story - KMGH Denver

DENVER -- Two shooters aiming at the spinning blades of windmills have caused $14,000 in damage to two windmills on Pawnee National Grassland.

The shooting occurred earlier this week and caused extensive damage to the motors of the windmills, the National Forest Service said Thursday.
It occured to me that this is probably the image that most of the unwashed masses have of we-the-gun-owners. Bullet-hole ridden signs, shot mailboxes, general "gun vandalism."

I was brainstorming on ideas to respond to this and came up with an idea I wanted to float.

It would be nice to have some kind of loosely organized group, with a web presence, where responsible gun owners could volunteer their time (or skills) to help clean up damage done by irresponsible gun owners. Kind of like the adopt-a-highway litter patrols.

Those willing to volunteer could contact people (like in the story above) and volunteer to help clean up. Requests for volunteers could be solicited via our website... volunteers could respond to solicitations in their area... etc.

In exchange, not unlike the adopt-a-highway programs, perhaps we get a sign saying "This area cleaned up by Volunteer Responsible Gun Owners" or some such thing. And perhaps we make a statement by Open Carrying while doing it.

Just a thought... but I'd be curious as to what other folks think of this idea.
The facts are indisputable. There is more data supporting the benefits of Conceal Carry than there is supporting global warming. If you choose ignorance, in light of all the evidence, in order to bolster your irrational fear of guns, you are a greater threat to society than any gun owner.

I'd be more than willing to catch the vandals in the act--thereby saving volunteer man-hours.

I'm with you there! I don't know about other areas, but in most of the west these things are pervasive problems. You get a handful of miles out of denver and finding a sign without a bullet hole in it gets pretty difficult.

I don't mind getting outside and doing some work... especially if I thought that work would help the cause and, perhaps, mitigate some of the negative publicity. If someone had thrown rocks at those windmills... it would never have made the news.

Sounds like a good idea. I see it in my travels across south and southeastern Colorado.
