Don't believe that Mayor Bloomberg sincerely thinks that his gun control will reduce crime. It is simply a power play to benefit his political fundraising and national profile, with his desired effect of slapping down conservatives that never did and never will support him.
He is not just a confused, dysfunctional gun controller: He is a malicious, conniving big government liberal. He knows what he can really accomplish with his gun control drum beat, and he is accomplishing it -- even if crime continues to go up under his watch.
Just more ammo for him to keep a NY State license out of ol' NYC. Reasoning........less guns around to do bad with. Schmuck.
Government's first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives.
Stories like this really annoy me, and scare me. I have a NY State permit which is useless in NYC. My wife works in Manhattan and every so often I need to go into the city to pick her up, and of course, I have to leave my firearm at home. I'm afraid that just when I really might need the protection, I will be in danger and my gun will be nice and safe... where I left it at home.

Things like this should anger the Hell out of you, prompting action via your legislators, to help them wake up and smell the coffee.
My condolences to those who live in a place where the "authorities" will string you up for surviving. Shades of Atlas Shrugged.
