    DC Mayor and Semi

Adrian M. Fenty, the mayor of Washington, said that officials here are considering an amnesty period during which people who own handguns can register them without penalty.

Mr. Fenty emphasized that it remains illegal to carry handguns outside the home and that only registered guns may be kept at home. Automatic and semi-automatic weapons will generally remain illegal, Mr. Fenty said.

Aren't all (or most) handguns semi-automatic by nature?

He should read what the Supremes said, or rather didn't say. They said 'handguns', not revolvers only. Looks like he is getting ready to waste the tax payers money and the courts time once again.

I don't think the mayor's "semi" idea will go very far in court...OMO

    Stay armed...semi or revolver...stay safe!

But guys under D.C. law anything with a removable magazine or a fixed magazine of twelve shots or more is a "machine gun".

Doesn't Fenty now come across as desperately trying to exercise whatever control he can still salvage? ....what the hell's his problem with semi's now? ... guy seems like such a self-serving loser.

You would not believe the hoops people are going to have to jump through even with this ruling. Check this out.
22-4510. Licenses of weapons dealers; records; by whom granted; conditions.

    (a) The Mayor of the District of Columbia may, in his or her discretion, grant licenses and may prescribe the form thereof, effective for not more than 1 year from date of issue, permitting the licensee to sell pistols, machine guns, sawed-off shotguns, and blackjacks at retail within the District of Columbia subject to the following conditions in addition to those specified in 22- 4509, for breach of any of which the license shall be subject to forfeiture and the licensee subject to punishment as provided in this chapter:
And my favorite part of the regulations:

    (6) No pistol or imitation thereof or placard advertising the sale thereof shall be displayed in any part of said premises where it can readily be seen from the outside. No license to sell at retail shall be granted to anyone except as provided in this section.
In another section it mentions how each sale can only take place after the Chief of Police of the District of Columbia gives their permission.

Any place that tried to tell me when where and how I could do anything that is not illegal in other parts of the country but they decide to restrict or make illegal would not get any of my hard earned money,I would move in a heart beat,I don't think people that have lived under such restrictive laws for so long know what real freedom is like

This is also what DC's lead AG (who argued Heller) parroted on the News Hour tonight.

Well, the decision left a lot of wiggle room when they "followed" the ruling in Miller, even though they totally did not follow it as was pointed out in the dissent, they said that the ruling in Miller allows restrictions on ownership of certain types of arms. Had they truly followed the logic in Miller, we would be allowed to own M-16s and RPGs because those are the arms fit for militia duty.

However, the opinion then stated in other parts that arms in common use could not be banned. (Which makes no sense, since the only reason machine guns are not in common use is that they were banned by the Feds in '32, but that's another issue all together.) Therefore, a lot of interpretation can go into the definition of types of arms in common use. Until that issue is settled, we will probably not be free from potential or existing semi-auto bans and "assault weapons" bans. It's gonna take more lawsuits to settle that issue methinks.

I'm sure the idea of CCW in DC is still in the distant future, but what the Supreme Court did today was a step in the right direction. Not only for DC, it sets an example for all other cities with similar bans. DC residents will no longer have to live in fear, and will be able to protect their dwellings.

And so the unreasonableness goes. Same ol', same ol', Heller or not. Step in the right direction, yes. But, it's only a step.

It's gonna be a long fight.

Greatest threat to criminals, IMO: that 100% of upstanding adult citizens carries. Less will yield less benefit, but nothing else will yield as much.
