Revolutionary War Veterans Association
I recently joined the Revolutionary War Veterans Association (RWVA) for the training and the strong spirit of independence and patriotism as they relate not just to the existance of our Second Amendment rights, but to the proficiency in exercising them.
Any other members here on the forum?

I might be a bit young to be a vet of that particular conflict... ;)
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

I'm old (probably several decades older than Opfor, who first saw service during the Boxer Rebellion), but not quite that old . . .

I went to the first RWVA Rifleman's Boot Camp and had a ball. Tired, sore, bloody elbows but wanted even more. Camped on the range for 10 days and loved it.
It took me several weeks to get over it as I was 69 at the time.
Took my son and grandson to the first Ga. Appleseed at Toccoa. They had a ball as well.
I was loading my truck with camping equipment, rifles and ammo for the second Boot Camp but started having chest pains and decided I had better stay home.
Good thing I did as I had 2 blockages in my heart and had to have stents installed.
I would suggest any shooter to attend either a Boot Camp or an Appleseed any time they can and as many times as they can.

I'm an RWVA member... and an Appleseed volunteer.
I know of no better way to spend a weekend than at an Appleseed. I've been to several, and I take my teenage daughters along when I can. I'll be attending my first Boot Camp next month, and I'm really looking forward to it.
New to rifles? Appleseed will get you started on the right path. Been shooting a while? Appleseed will help you improve your skills. Already an expert marksman? Come and share your skills with others!

I am going this weekend. It will be a challenge as the Appleseed Shoot (AS) I am going to is in Davilla Texas about two hours south of DFW. There are no sunshine soldiers in the RWVA so we will be shooting in whatever is left of hurricane Ike when it arrives. I just picked my rain gear up while I was out running errands. If anyone else is going let me know here or by PM and we can say hellow face to face at the event.

bigiceman - Enjoy your shoot... Davilla is getting to be a popular shoot. A bit far for me to drive though. I may just make the trip one weekend next year. Rain, snow, sleet, hail, 100+ temps, wind, sand... Appleseed rolls right along. Lightning will stop the firing line temporarily, and one shoot that I know of stopped while a funnel cloud went by, but that's about it :)
If nothing else, Appleseed _will_ test your gear. If you've never shot in a rain storm, how do you know your rifle will function under those conditions?

I know you will have a great time. I did. The rain was only a minor annoyance and we had a great shoot. The man who runs the program there is one of the best people I have met. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
You are going to that bootcamp and have joined us here. Congratulations you are an awake American. Be sure and awaken more as you go through your days.
