Below is the response from Congressman Randy Forbes from Virginia to a letter I sent hin concerning concealed carry. I thought you may find it to be interesting reading.
Thank you for contacting me to express your support for concealed handgun permit holders. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on this matter with me.
As you know, the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads: "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." While others may disagree, the plain language of this Amendment guarantees the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear the arms of their choice. I am strongly opposed to limitations on the United States Constitution's Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners. While no one condones the possession and use of guns by felons or other high-risk individuals to perpetrate any crime, we must continue to defend the right of law-abiding citizens to bear and purchase arms.
The key to curbing the unlawful use of firearms is the stricter enforcement of existing laws. There are about 20,000 firearms laws already on the books in this country. To prevent crime, we must fully enforce those laws already on the books. I am disappointed to see that the laws currently being considered by Congress are merely an attempt to make people feel more secure without providing any real security.
I can assure you that your concerns will be kept in mind should legislation addressing the rights of concealed carry permit holders come before me in the House of Representatives. I will continue to do all I can on the federal level to ensure that your Second Amendment rights are protected.
As your Representative in Congress, I appreciate your input in this matter. If I can be of further assistance to you on this or any other matter, please feel free to contact me in my Washington DC office at (202) 225-6365 or online at Congressman J. Randy Forbes - The Official Online Resource for Constituents of Virginia's Fourth Congressional District. With kind personal regards, I am

Good letter from Forbes, but talk is cheap. The true test will be how he backs up those words when it counts.
Do you think he has another letter that he sends the "anti" crowd?
This is a very similar response that I got from my State representative when I wrote him about open carry in Texas. Both say they are supportive, but neither say they will either author or sponsor a bill.
Not a bad response. But as others have said, it could be a type of pro-2A form letter he sends out. Not having met or talked to him in person it is hard to judge from just a letter.
Good job writing to him though. This is something we all must continue to do, and now even more so than ever.
I have gotten two of those types of letters from my California Rep. and I am not entirely convinced. I know my congressmen supports 2A rights, but he claims he cannot do anything to change the situation in California. It seems to me, he should take a more proactive role in making CA a "shall issue" state.
