All the more reason to get vocal about it, though, right? That's why I posted this in the first place. If people don't know about it, and don't voice support of it, it can likely meet the same fate as the versions you've described that came before it.

BAC, I'm not criticizing you for posting this, I'm just pointing out the political climate in the State Legislature. We do support these bills, but the boys and girls in Helena have other weighty matters on their hands, like a bill to designate an official State Love Song.
The 2007 Legislature passed a law to designate an official State Lullaby.
Like I said, stay tuned...

And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier.

What you describe would not pass as "defensive;" I'm more inclined to see it as a protective clause for those times a gun is drawn but not fired (the group of street punks suddenly were "just joking around a little"), or from the sheeple that would call 911 for "Man with a Gun" because you were seen putting it in/out of your holster (Post-office run, for example).

Let us hope for the best and that it passes. Sounds a bit like Vermont, as in NO major gun laws that effect concealed carry and protecting one's self or family.

I don't think it'd have a good chance of passing here. The biggest issues I see:
1) The hotels/motels bit. Obviously, we have a huge tourist industry here and they will make a huge stink about it.
2) The carrying at businesses by employees bit. Our chamber of commerce made a HUGE stink about our recent "carry to work" law, so I can't imagine how much of a response there'd be to this clause, which is much more comprehensive than the carry to work law (which is a bit of a misnomer because it only covers keeping a gun in your car, not on your person... companies are still free to ban weapons on their property... so you can still be fired)

B.T.T. I would love to see bills like those two pass all over the country, but I find it highly unlikely.

Hotels in Florida cannot do much about who carries concealed in its property. The room you rented for the night falls into the Castle Doctrine so at best they can ask you to leave if they see you have a gun in the room or you accidentally display your gun and get caught.
You have to make the shot when fire is smoking, people are screaming, dogs are barking, kids are crying and sirens are coming.

My fellow Texans, if you read the full bill, you will see in the Stand Your Ground Law and Castle Doctrine here in Texas, we pretty much have what they have anyways, if I'm reading the whole bills right. The circumstances are covered in our laws, now the places is new and I like that.

Not always.
