Bill introduced to license firearms!!!!!!!!!
If interested in your 2d amendment rights, you need to read the Bill. This is more government control and another effort to head us down the path of socialism. Good luck on being able to defend yourself in the future. You will probably be prosecuted if you shoot someone breaking into your home. I imagine this legislation will be passed in the middle of the night! I don't think we will recognize this country in the next 4 years. We are going to look
like the inept and socialist Western Europe.
"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." Thomas Jefferson
Hold your nose... this one really stinks!
Here is the first bill introduced by the Democrat controlled house that mandates licensing for all firearms owners...
You will have to carry a photo ID firearms license.
A training class is required to be licensed.
Disclosure of your storage method is required for license.
A thumb print is required for license.
Every sale recorded by the federal government.
If you move, and don't tell the Attorney General within 60 days, you are a criminal.
If a firearm is stolen and you don't report it, you are a criminal.
There will be no grandfathered firearms. If you do not obtain a license and report every firearm you currently own, you are a criminal.
There will be a license fee and a fee for the "services" provided at purchase time.
Licenses must be renewed every 5 years.
This is already in process. It's H.R. 45, Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009.

Here's what I sent my representative.
I am writing to bring to your attention my concerns regarding H.R. 45, Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009.
H.R. 45 would require a license for handguns and semiautomatics, including those currently possessed.
Representative, all firearms purchases from federally licensed dealers (FFLs) currently require a background check and completion of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) form 4437. In addition, all handgun purchases require a handgun permit issued by a citizen's Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO). This in itself requires a waiting period and a thorough background check. These background checks include mental health background checks through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The current system is appropriate and necessary, and no further licensing is required, particularly for older firearms, such as the .22 squirrel rifle I inherited from my deceased great-uncle when I was a child.
H.R. 45 requires the applicant to be thumbprinted and sign a certification that, effectively, the firearm will not be kept in a place where it would be available for the defense of the gun owner's family.
Fingerprinting is unnecessary, because BATFE will already have a record of a citizen's personal information due to the background check and form 4437. In addition, the Second Amendment gives "the people" of America the right to keep and bear arms, and the Government should not prohibit law-abiding citizens from being able to use firearms in their own homes to defend themselves and their families.
The applicant must also make available ALL of his psychiatric records, pass an exam, and pay a fee of up to $25.
Many United States citizens are, or have been, under medical treatment for various psychiatric conditions, such as depression or anxiety. This does not mean they are unfit to safely and legally possess a firearm. Both the CLEO handgun permit application and BATFE form 4437 specifically check for whether an applicant has ever been adjudicated mentally defective or been committed to a mental institution. All involuntary mental institution commitments (in which a person is medically determined to be a danger to himself or to others) result in a person being listed with NICS, and thus those individuals automatically fail the current background checks and cannot purchase firearms . This is as it should be, and the current system is already adequate to prevent these people from purchasing firearms. No further disclosure of confidential, psychiatric records is necessary.
The license may be renewed after five years and may be revoked.
Once a person has passed the necessary background checks, why should their right to keep their firearms be jeopardized, and why should they have to pay additional money to maintain those firearms? This amounts to an unfair, additional tax, and citizens already pay sales tax on firearms when they purchase them.
Private sales would be outlawed, and reports to the attorney general of all transactions would be required, even when, as the bill allows, the AG determines that a state licensing system is sufficiently draconian to substitute for the federal license. With virtually no exceptions, ALL firearms transactions (involving semi-autos, handguns, long guns, etc.) would be subject to a Brady check.
Firearms sales are, again, already subject to a thorough and appropriate background check.
In addition, the bill would make it unlawful in nearly all cases to keep any loaded firearm for self-defense.
Again, this directly conflicts with the Second Amendment, which states that the rights of the people to keep and bear arms "shall not be infringed."
A variety of "crimes by omission" (such as failure to report certain things) would be created. Criminal penalties of up to ten years and almost unlimited regulatory and inspection authority would be established.
This Bill would effectively treat law-abiding citizens like criminals. Criminals are the ones upon whom the full regulatory force of the United States Government should fall, not law-abiding citizens.
Representative, it is important to me to inform you of my feelings regarding H.R. 45. I ask for your kind attention and consideration in this matter. As an active member of my church and community, and as a member of the National Rifle Association, I am counting upon you to stand up for the rights of decent, law-abiding citizens.
Thank you kindly for your time.

Y'all forgot the parts where the AG can inspect any place where subject guns are stored. Before you say it's for comerce, if you own it it can be sold, therefore, it can be released into commerce.
and the part where the AG is released to get you mental health records. Guess who gets to determine what's mental health.
And the part where the AG gets to determine what guns may no longer be sold.
This is bad bad bad. Write your congressman. Be respectful and write your own letter. Letters from templates are ignored; this according to a couple politicians I asked what mail they read.
and for those of you who already have to do these things by state law, that doesn't make it good or right.

Now that the Socialists have taken over the government of the United States, they need to insure they can maintain their control and they cannot be sure of that as long as we citizens are armed. So they MUST relieve you and I of our firearms. Enter "Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009".
There's a better than even chance that you haven't heard about it. With the Mainstream Media in the United States comfortably ensconced in the pockets of the Democrats very little is being said, if anything, about the Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009. Rest assured, dear reader, it is pending federal legislation in Congress today! (H.R. 45) Representative Bobby Rush of Illinois, a Democrat, introduced the bill on January 6, 2009.
"The main objective of the bill is to provide for stricter gun control. A person would be prohibited by law from possessing a firearm unless approved by a state run system or been issued a license that would have to be renewed every five years within thirty days of the expiration date.
The Attorney General would set up a tracking system of all sales with dealers having to be licensed. Production figures of each licensed manufacturer would be made public.
All those current licensed gun owners would have two years to become certified by the Attorney General or risk losing private property or becoming a criminal." (From Wikipedia: HERE.)
When you read the bill you quickly realize it targets all gun owners in the U.S.A.
This bill is an outrage! It seeks nothing less than to strip you and me of our 2nd Amendment constitutional right to keep and bear arms. When you read the bill you will also learn that two years after the passage of the bill, ALL FIREARMS in a citizen's possession must be registered, not just those purchased after the bill passes, and this apparently applies to antique firearms as well. Further… every five years, if you own a firearm, you must go through a complete renewal process for each weapon you own! If you don't do it, for whatever reason, there will be stiff penalties, which include the confiscation of your firearms and jail time with sentences as high as ten years in some cases.
And that is not even the worst of it. Nosiree! The bill also authorizes government searches without warrant, the creation of a federal bureaucracy to monitor firearm possession, etc.
There is an excellent summary of the bill HERE.
Is it time for the next Boston Tea Party? There is an excellent article on that HERE.
With Democrats in control of the US Government, American citizens always need to guard such liberties as gun ownership even more closely. THIS is what happens when you trade freedom for security!
Back in September of 2007, we wrote the following: "What's happening, all of a sudden, to bring on these "gun stories?" Well, the Left is feeling it's oats right now. They have reason to believe they will win the 2008 Presidential election and… if they do… and if they retain control of the two houses of Congress, you can "bet the farm" that gun control legislation will be among the first items on the New Congress' agenda of things to pass."
I'm not a prophet, but I AM an ole country boy, with a smidgen of common sense, and THAT is all it took to divine where a government run by democrats would take us.
Why is gun control so popular among the Leftists of the world? Simple. As long as we citizens are armed we can shut down the Left any time we feel they have stepped too far over the line to be tolerated. They know that. They also know that they have come very close to that line on a number of occasions. They got the message. So now the socialists in charge of the US government feel they have to power to disarm us and secure their grasp on the throats of the American citizen and they're going for it. What they fail to grasp is the fact that those of us on the Right understand that Obama, and his fellow socialists in the Congress, are on the point of the spear of the movement to transform America from a democratic republic to a socialist hellhole. It's not going to happen without a fight.
Some of the democrats also understand that they cannot depend upon the US Military to back them up in this move to solidify their hold on America by shredding the Constitution and stripping their fellow Americans of their Second Amendment rights. The US Military are American citizens, too, and they have their own private collection of weapons. Plus, the vast majority of them favor the right to keep and bear arms… and… they took an oath to protect this country from all enemies, whether foreign or domestic. The democrats cannot trust them to back the government's move on it's own citizens.
Look, it's very simple: For the Democrat's socialist dream to be successful American citizens must give up their guns. We're not going to do that. So, the current socialist government of the United States is going to try to take them.
The gun won this country from the Mother Country. The gun secured the remainder of the country between the two oceans and the gun has made us a free people and the gun has kept us free. So far, we have not forgotten that.
Congress had better understand. Americans are not going to give up their guns. If they pass this hellish bill into law, it will make criminals out of well over 85% of all Americans. I still have faith that my fellow Americans are willing to fight to protect their constitutional rights and their country even if that means opposing what millions of Americans consider as a rogue government in Washington.
As the US Navy Chaplain said during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor while he helped load the anti aircraft weapons firing at the Japanese warplanes slaughtering our service men and decimating out fleet: "Pass the Ammunition boys, and we'll stay free."
Get ready, my fellow Americans. It gives me a great deal of pain to warn you that all hell is about to break out within America.

(Comment by Gary: The "Blair Holt" bill has further consequences for Montana people. After the first two-year warm up period, it would be a crime to even possess a firearm without the requisite federally-approved firearm owners' license. A Real ID would be required to even apply for this license. Since Montana has rejected Real ID, every gun owner in Montana would automatically become a federal criminal two years after the passage of the act. Further, even if we wanted to and could get the required licenses, we'd have to pay $25 to license and register EACH gun we possess, EVERY year. And, even if you could meet all the criteria and sent in the application and money on time, if the government bobbled your application and didn't get it back to you on time you would become a federal criminal just because the government didn't process your paperwork in a timely fashion. Given the number of guns in private hands in the U.S., even if all gun owners DID send in the proper forms and checks, does anybody believe that a government agency would be able to process this workload in an efficient and timely manner? Of course, the goal of this federal legislation is simply civilian disarmament. You must be disarmed because as long as you are armed you simply won't submit to the level of tyranny and economic slavery "they" have planned for you.)

One thing people make mistakes on is the fact that the 2nd amendment doesn't "give" anything, is protects a "right" that you already posses. nothing in the Constitution gives anything to us, it only tells what limits Government has, please remember that and spread the word!
In addition, the Second Amendment gives
"the people" of America the right to keep and bear arms

It seems like the more our government seeks to control and restrain us, the more likely they are to have a revolt on our hands. Maybe not an open revolt. Yet. But I can easily see folks not obeying this one (reporting past acquisitions of firearms). I see this trend in many areas of 'over-government' that is slowly being foist upon us of late.

I dont know that it will do any good because we have nothing but Democrats up in the house and senate for Michigan but I have said my peace about this HR45 and how it is a direct infringement upon our rights. We will see, but at least I sent emails.....Anything else that I can do?
