According to a recent article in the Times Free Press,
"...One in four Tennessee lawmakers has a state-issued permit to carry a loaded handgun, a newspaper analysis has found....
...The 26 percent of state lawmakers with handgun permits is more than five times higher than the statewide rate. A total of about 220,000 people, or 4.7 percent of the state's adult population of 4.69 million, have handgun permits.
Of the lawmakers with handgun permits, 22 are Republicans and 12 are Democrats. The list does not include an additional five lawmakers who are allowed to carry handguns because they are current or former law enforcement officers.
The Legislature is considering a slew of bills aimed at expanding the areas where handguns can be carried and closing the state's handgun permit database from public inspection....
....Those measures would allow handguns to be carried in state and local parks and wildlife areas, allow guns to be carried in restaurants where alcohol is served until 11 p.m., and make it a crime to report handgun permit information for the Safety Department's database."
This article or another I read, went on to say that Jimmy Naifeh had previously blocked any progun bills in committee so they could never be voted on. HE CAN'T DO THAT ANYMORE!!!!! He's been dethroned.
So, should be interesting to see what happens Wednesday when these bills come before the legislature.
