Obama vs so called assault rifles
Do you folks really think that after all this massive amount of pungent smelling puke like garbage that has been coming out of his administration coupled with the amount of flak recieved from we the people that he and his craptastic staff is really going to take aim and actually pursue disarming our rights to keep and bear so called Assault Rifles?

No. I think it will be done by the same people who just spent $800 billion dollars without reading the large print, let alone the fine print.

Yes. Yes I do. Keep in mind, his (their) elitist mindset. We don't really matter. Neither do our rights (which in their minds are archaic). Only they know what is really best for us. And they'll "save us from ourselves", whether we like it or not.
And they are certain, that though we are dragged, kicking and screaming, to their "Utopia", we'll eventually thank them for it. All but those "criminals" who dare to resist their change with force. But those were bad seeds, needed to be weeded out...
I truly hope I am wrong.

90/10 yes.
Nor do I think that it'll stop there.

There's no doubt in my mind that the democrats will bring back Clinton's ban on assault weapons.
And, as David said, they won't stop there.
It's on their radar screen, as Eric Holder leaked out the other day. Pelosi poo-poo'd it because she knows they should hold off until after the mid-term elections. She doesn't want to lose any congressional seats to the republicans.
If they start attacking our gun rights now, they might lose some seats in 2010.
It's a total power grab.

Good read. I wonder if the firearms community would ever go in for a measure between armed revolt and peaceful surrender? If 30 million Americans went on strike because their rights were being trampled on what would be the effect? If 30 million gun owners stayed home and didn't buy anything for a week, what would be the effect? If 30 million gun owners showed up after some stupid law was passed and demanded to be arrested and held without bail I wonder how it would be taken?
Just from an economic standpoint, think of the impact that taking 10% of the population off the street and putting the in jails would have. I work at a nuclear power plant. I can tell you the plant would have to shut down if all the people there who owned firearms didn't come to work because they were in jail for owning guns. Take those poeple out of productive jobs and put them in jail and the unemployment in this country would double in a day and the loss of production would make the current troubles look like a walk in the park.
We really do need to do something to make our presence and power as a group of like-minded citizens known.
But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself...

It will, indeed, be stopped there. The previous AWB is a precedent. And whether it is Constitutional (I think it is not.) is supported by Miller. Any attempt to expand a Federal ban will be met by opposition from both sides of the aisle. If the antis want to push forth their agenda they must do it through the states. They will fail. The trend is to preserve and expand gun rights through CCW legislation and justifiable self defense laws n the many states.

But that argument is the same every two years, which is why it won't happen.

On hiatus.
Hit my limit for speculation, the sky is falling, and gun owners fighting amongst themselves.

I disagree with you S.D.
This is the most extreme liberal group of leftists running our country.
We've always had a balance of power.
Those days are over.
Leftists detest our constitution.
And they couldn't care less about state's rights.

There are probably just enough good Blue-Dog Democrats around that any attempted reinstatement of an AWB will not get very far through the front door.
Some possible back-door ammo regs and restrictions are a bit more likely.
I think that President Obama has a pretty full plate right now.
There are enough things about his agenda that are about ready to implode - that he will have plenty of "other things" to think about for a while.
Just my personal opinion on that.

I know plenty of Blue-Dogs who love their guns too much.. I doubt the liberals would want to lose those votes. There is a surprisingly large pro-gun blue dog coalition in the senate and house.. Lets just pray Pelosi doesn't get her way..

I think that with everything wrong with the world right now, no one but us really cares about guns too much either way. The politicians know how many of us there are, that's a lot of votes. I'm pretty liberal for the most part, I don't think that the Gov should be in peoples personal business. IMO, having guns falls under that heading. We have the constitutional right, I don't see Obama ,or any other politician opening that can of worms. Especially now.
