Propagandist Essay
Some people say that guns are harmful. Others say that they should be banned everywhere, announcing that with guns in a school or home, the people in that place are more likely to be hurt. Well, I think that is a lie. A downright, honest to goodness lie. A gun is an inanimate object; it can’t grow legs and walk around shooting people! And we have many instances where a teacher having a gun with them would have saved many lives, including the children the gun-haters are trying to ‘protect’ by passing anti-gun laws.
Now, before we start fighting, do you have a child in a public school? What kind of security do they have there? High security with metal detectors? Or ladies in the office making you sign in before you can pick them up? Either way, what if an armed assailant smooth talked his way out of a scan? Or used a back entrance in the school to avoid the people in the office? After that, who would stop him? An off-duty policeman can’t carry his sidearm on school property nor can a teacher, even if that teacher is in a right-to-carry state and even has a permit for that gun. Students can’t bring in guns either or they would be expelled. And if someone saw him coming with his gun out (if it wasn’t cleverly concealed that is) and they called 9-1-1, no response vehicles of any kind would be there before many people were killed or injured.
That’s a scary possibility isn’t it? Well an even scarier one is of a student who walks into school and opens fire. There are many sad examples of this including Columbine in 1999, the Virginia Tech Massacre in 2007, and the Red Lake High School
Massacre in 2005. If teachers were allowed to carry hand guns, innocent kids could be protected.
You may be thinking, “There are school security officers on the grounds. There’s nothing to worry about, right?” WRONG. Just because they are security officers, that doesn’t mean that they get to carry handguns, even if they have been rigorously trained to use them. The same law that states that an upstanding citizen can not have a firearm on the property or 1000 ft from it, says that the men and women charged with your child’s security can’t use a gun to protect the children, teachers, or themselves.
President Barack Obama recently appointed Arne Duncan to the post of Secretary of Education. Mr. Duncan has fought long and hard against guns and anybody who has anything to do with guns. He and radical Father Michael Pfleger, who has “known Obama for the better part of 20 years” and is a well known extremist, picketed a gun store called Chuck’s Gun Shop. The store had nothing, NOTHING wrong, except, in their eyes, sell guns to qualified citizens who wanted to protect their family. Duncan was superintendent of Chicago public schools before he was selected for Secretary of Education. There he encouraged some of the most violent gun-haters, some of whom call for the “snuffing out” of gun store owners. Chicago is the only city with a flat-out handgun ban. Before the ban, the violent crime rate was 50% higher than the national average. After the ban however, the violent crime rate skyrocketed to a dizzying 150% above the national average and today it’s even higher, at 184% above the national average. If that happened just in Chicago, now that he has all of the nation’s schools under is thumb, what will happen to the children in America?
Please, write a letter, call, or send an e-mail to your state representative or governor. Tell them that you want to be safe. Tell them you want your family to be safe. Especially tell them you want your children to be safe. Make sure your Second Amendment right is protected.
