Newsweek: Holder Backing Off Weapons Ban Under NRA Pressure
http://www.newsweek.com/id/191037
"After fierce resistance from the gun lobby and its allies in Congress, Attorney General Eric Holder has dialed back talk about reimposing a federal assault weapons ban to help curb the spiraling violence in Mexico..."
"Sixty-five House Democrats signed a letter saying they would oppose any new ban—as did Montana's two Democratic senators, Max Baucus and Jon Tester. "Senators to Attorney General Holder: Stay Away From Our Guns," read a press release sent out by Baucus's office. In addition, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid both shot down the idea that Congress would take up any new assault weapons ban this year..."
Thank God.
Idealism is what precedes experience; cynicism is what follows.

No time to read the whole article now, just what you quoted. But I'm left wondering what the 'gun lobby' had to do with this. Sounded like the American People spoke pretty clearly through their elected officials.
"Run for your life from the man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter. So long as men live together on earth and need means to deal with one another-their only substitute, if they abandon money, is the muzzle of a gun."

Don't quit now!
Don't think its over yet! They are going to attempt something evil
in the name of "helping" Mexico and its drug war.
I know it will be bad, but I don't know just how bad.

The Second Amendment is NOT about hunting!

I think everyone, including those who supported Obama in the election, are speaking loud and clear with their wallets.

It may be a moment to catch a breath, but don't think for a moment the anti's are having second thoughts, just worried about their jobs, and rightly so.
"That I cannot do."
"Give this to, uh, Clemenza. I want reliable people, people who aren't going to be carried away. After all we're not murderers in spite of what this undertaker thinks."

I agree.
That's why I'm trying to respond to each and every threat to the Second, but one person can only do so much. We all need to work together to keep them from imposing their version of Utopia.

On a slightly different topic, has anyone seen a PRO gun story in your local media outlets. I haven't seen a positive gun story lately.

This is good news. But everyone is right. It is not the time to relax. Time to take a breath and get more involved, if your not already, with your elected officials. Make sure your voice is heard. The anti crowd will be trying again, and as always... they will come at us sideways.
@Pikachu711
Sadly no I haven't seen any pro-gun stories in the news. Latest news here involving a gun was a very tragic Amber Alert. I won't post the info but here is the link to the story.

It is very sad, I'm sure the anti crowd will spin this to make the gun look evil as they always do.

That's how I see it - maybe even the calm before the storm.
Anti's rarely change, only when it benefits them, but even then they are still antis, with the strong desire to ban guns. When their opportunity arises, they will do what they do.
But I am relieved for the time and maybe we can enjoy the moment.
It does make me wonder if the intense gun/ammo buying has had a an impact on politicians.
I'm too young to be this old!
