Gun Legislation Storm Looming - New Zealand

Thought I would share some recent happenings from my home country as its looking like a potential gun legislation storm is brewing here.

Last week a drug bust went wrong, 3 police officers (unarmed) were serving a search warrant on a known drug dealer and the dealer went on a rampage, turns out he was Ex Military and was quoted by friends as being a "Rambo Type" person.

One officer shot dead, one wounded and the dealers neighbour who tried to defuse the situation was also shot (all with a high power mililtary rifles).

This resulted in a 3 day stand off with armed police with multiple pot shots being fired and neighbours also being shot at before being evacuated from the area.

It ended with the dealer killing himself and upon entering the dwelling police found un-registered guns (pistol, combat shotguns, SMGs, etc) stolen from the military, other illegal guns, explosives and booby traps.

Anyway after this incident the anti gun people here are calling for tighter gun laws (like they arent tight enough here already). The media is really hyping it up and a prominent NZ TV personaility turned academic is stoking the fire.

What annoys me is all these guns were stolen or un-registered so tighter laws would not have stopped this from happening.

When will they realise laws are for law abiding people, criminals arent going to register their weapons or procure them through legal means.

Perfect! I'm sure this will hit the U.S. liberal news carriers as well.

I'll never understand why anyone dosn't see the facts........

More laws? Oh yeah, that'll work.

That would be almost a "Carbon Copy" of what happened in Australia AKA a horrible incident used as the catalyst to create strict gun legislation or outright banning.

And with the administration that is in place here in the U.S. in combination with its willing partners in the Nat News Media - we are RIPE for something similar happening here.

    Terrible

I love new laws for guns that were illegal under the current laws to start with mind set.

As a side note why do officers serve warrants unarmed?

If your media calls that a stash most of my friends would be 3rd world armories

I agree....toughen the laws, ban the military from having weapons! Only the police need to have weapons. Oh, wait a second, if weapons are banned the there is no need for the police to have them either!!

Got pipe? Got firecrackers? Got sheetmetal?

why would three police officers serve a warrant on a drug dealer and not be armed?? What good is new gun laws going to do in a case like this where the BG could care less about the law???
