It will be great to finally get this passed and in force. It has been frustrating trying to get it out of committee for all these years with Naifeh single-handedly killing it every time it came up. Equally frustrating, but not surprising, was the press treatment of the "Guns in Bars" bill. The bill specifically states that consumption of alcohol while carrying is still illegal, but you would hardly know that by listening to the coverage.

Usually it's in effect once it is "published" on the record.

Good job.... the Governor may get an awakening.

Our Governor vetoed CCH and everything else, and was over-ridden every time..,.... or we wouldn't even have conceal carry.

What ldsnet said. Senator Jackson, the bill's sponsor in the Senate, had a fantastic speech leading up to the vote--twenty-one to nine to override, only seventeen votes were needed.

I must apologize. Yesterday I said:
From what I've read from a lot of "internet lawyers", since the bill was written with an effective date of June 1, then if and when the veto is overridden the law will be effective immediately. Regardless of when, it will be soon. Probably tomorrow.
Unfortunately, as has been mentioned, the effective date of the new law is July,14. I guess my hope that today would be the day we could go out and eat in a restaurant where alcohol is served will have to wait for awhile longer. But it will not be long now....FOR SURE.

If you would like to see the speech that Senator Doug Jackson gave in support of the veto override, you can see it here:

    Senate Session-38th Legislative Day

When the viewer comes up, look on the list of bills under the video screen and click on HB0962. You can scroll the slide to the right and get it to 54:50 on the timer if you just want to see "the speech."
It has to be one of the finest speeches ever given before a legislative body on 2nd Amendment Freedom. It lasts about 30 minutes and is well worth the time.

It doesn't need to be concealed does it? Granted concealed in some places. But just to eat at Olive garden or something? I really did like his speech and will thank my reps.

Keep them concealed Please ! Lets not frighten people. We don't need to be in anyone's face with a firearm in a restaurant . Its like blowing smoke in a nonsmokers face.

    Congratulations Tennessee!

It has definitely passed, it just goes into effect forty days later IAW the Tennessee constitution--that is what Governor Bredesen's wait of nine days to veto it cost us--otherwise it would have gone into effect this past Monday (veto to override only took seven calendar days).

Still, 14 July 2009 is not too far away!
