    New statistics invented

So I'm listening to NPR on the way to work this morning (what can I say? I spy) . Apparently, now 80% of guns taken from cartels come from the U.S. This is down from the 90% originally claimed, but still a lot more than actually originate here.

This statistical nonsense really irks me. Okay, the cartels have, say, one million firearms. Mexico seizes ten of them, and eight of them come from the U.S. Viola, eighty percent of firearms seized from Mexican cartels come from the U.S. It is so meaningless, but the public laps it up.

And remember, what percentage of the total seized can even be traced?

According to the real numbers it is closer to 10%-to-17%, but the reality is that there is no way to know the exact number.

I wouldn't doubt that they are coming from some organization in the Federal Government that specializes in destabilizing nations and organizing a crisis just so that someone can get rich.

Keep in mind that 37% of people that quote statistics make them up as they go along.

At Mexico's Lone Gun Shop, Army Oversees Sales : NPR

Here's the story; it wasn't online this morning when I first posted.

Good comments on there (appears there are more spies out there)
