Handgun Sales Measure Headed to N.J. Governor's Desk

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey may soon become the fourth state with a one-handgun-per-month buying limit.

The state Senate approved the measure in a 21-15 vote late Thursday, several months after it passed the Assembly. It now heads to Gov. Jon S. Corzine for his consideration.

Supporters say the measure would stem the flow of guns and prevent criminals from distributing handguns throughout New Jersey, but critics say it will punish law-abiding gun owners.

Sen. Fred Madden, D-Turnersville, cast the deciding vote.

The former state police superintendent had opposed the idea, but changed his vote after Corzine agreed to form a task force that will examine the law's impact. That panel also will draw up recommendations that could lead to exemptions for gun collectors and competitive and recreational shooters.

Yeah, but the quid pro quo will be listing of all guns you own in return for being able to buy more than one a month. I'm hoping to retire next year and move back to America if it's still there.

Supporters say the measure would stem the flow of guns ...
Oh, yeah. It'll do that. Stem the ability of upstanding people from acquiring firearms.

... and prevent criminals from distributing handguns throughout New Jersey
But it won't have a snowball's chance of accomplishing that.

Why? No criminal is going to be sitting on his thumbs for a month awaiting his next gun purchase, so that he can make some money selling it. No criminal with a market of hundreds is going to wait on NJ's limits to catch up. Instead he'll dip into the black market or cross the state line and buy them all there.

NJ is nothing to be worried about. The people there obviously want to NOT be an American state. So I say lets place an electrified glass topped concret wall 65' high with phalanx cannons to shoot down the aircraft trying to smuggle their liberal personnel to other states.

Years ago, I had cause to travel to NJ using the Delaware Memorial Bridge. There was no toll to enter NJ, but it cost a couple of bucks to get out there. Why? Because it was worth it!!!

Imagine how much it would have cost if leaving NJ by that bridge landed you in the free world instead of Maryland.

She's got me enslaved by a pension, but at least I can carry.

NJ politicians are so out of touch with reality and the charade that restrictive laws will keep guns out of criminal hands.

I was a son of the Socialist State. I have since joining the Military back in the 80's changed my residency and upon my retirement not be returning to NJ.

Congrats on being one of the few that can get a CC license in the land of the oppressed.

"Supporters say the measure would stem the flow of guns and prevent criminals from distributing handguns throughout New Jersey..."

The "measure" is a law, correct ?
A "criminal" is a person who breaks laws, correct ?

Another law is just another thing for a criminal to violate.

NJ, never heard of it. Seriously, I wish I had the problem of being able to afford two handguns a month. Still, this is terrible legistlation.

Keep in mind the local PDs issue permits to purchase handguns. They are supposed to issue within 30 days of application, but the NJ courts have refused to hold their feet to the fire. So the more liberal towns will make people wait months sometimes to buy 1 handgun. You may be looking at a 2-3 handgun-a-year scenario instead of a 12-13 handguns-a-year.
Most people may not be able to afford multiple handguns a year, but this is just one more step toward a total ban. This won't help crime, so like many other dimwitted NJ policies, the politicians will say the law it isn't working is because it doesn't go far enough!
"The right of the whole people, old and young, men, women and boys, and not militia only, to keep and bear arms of every description, not such merely as are used by the militia, shall not be infringed, curtailed, or broken in upon, in the smallest degree..."

When they finally come to seriously threaten the 2nd Amendment, it will probably start there.

The one good thing about the chaos in the NYS Senate is no new legislation that further infringes on our 2nd amendment rights is being passed.
