That is a tired worn out analogy that in any case holds no water. By 1933 the German people had no vote. No comparison to us today.

As for the comment about the Patriot Act, by a different participant here, remind me which political party rammed that one through and which one controlled the Executive branch and both houses of the legislative branch when that atrocious piece of legislation passed.
However, that is a different debate. I'm just objecting to the fearmongering.

Good grief, Hopyard, don't take things so seriously. I was being completely facetious.

On firearms issues, while we cannot lay vigilance aside, I think we are a bit safer than the numbers indicate. While I don't agree with much that Harry Reid does and thinks, he has thus far been fairly good on firearms issues, IIRC; several other Democratic senators are as well. As long as we stay on top of things and keep bombarding all of our members of Congress with our communications at every attempt to abridge the Second Amendment, I have hopes that we can keep them honest on this.

Indeed you are not alone. There are 150 million Americans who are disgusted, shocked, and appalled with the direction. Problem is, no matter what direction we take, there will still be 150 million Americans who are disgusted, shocked and appalled.

Exactly what rights do you think were taken away? How have you personally be affected?

Many people fear ghosts. You do realize that the Patriot Act, without harming a single innocent person, has thwarted numerous terrorist plots. It is it not an illusion of safety, it a successful, proactive program to 'connect the dots' and stop terrorists before they kill Americans.
Yes, I am in fear. I think people will throw away their rights for the illusion of safety.
And you advocate weakening our defenses and discarding successful tools? Interesting perspective. It aligns perfectly with many liberal minds and is another example of the truth of the similarity between liberals and libertarians.
Were not done with the terrorist yet, all it takes is another major attack. Doesn't even have to be as bad as 9/11
