Do the federal Government control content of driving licenses ? Would that not be the same ?

I agree Government can't even wipe their own behind, But driving a car across state lines works and drivers licenses is not federal control

Would you trust the Government with your right to Bear Arms? No one is looking for a way to ban cars.

I don't like the idea of a government issue carry license. Look what they have done with public housing, medicare/social security, or so many other things they have "fixed". Not a good idea.

No one is saying the government will issue or have any involvement with the permits. The law merely says if you have a valid permit from your home state another state has to honor it. As mi2az stated, it would work just like a drivers license.

I know I'm opening myself up for a hit, but....

Isn't the 2nd Amendment (a federal document) our carry permit?

Ok... Be nice.... Just feeling out opinions here.

I was born and raised in the Socialist State. One reason I joined the Army and LEFT.

But the question still stands, Wasn't the 2nd amendment our right to carry? and is it not a Federal document?

I agree that the 2nd amendment is our right to carry. To bad, the politicians, judges don't all agree.

Actually, they do. But it has to do with the design features of issued licenses--so that they become de facto ID and internal passports, rather than the driving ability aspect of the license.

This relates, btw, to the other thread we have on Red Flag Rules, the use of DLs for IDs instead of for driving purposes only.

Whenever I think about National CCW I keep thinking about the world's scariest phrase.

"Hello, I'm from the federal government, and I'm here to help"
Turn the election's in 2014 to a "2A Revolution". It will serve as a 1994 refresher not to "infringe" on our Second Amendment. We know who they are now.........SEND 'EM HOME. Our success in this will be proportional to how hard we work to make it happen.

I like things the way they are.

BTW: That call for donations from Sarah Brady Is mild compared to the usual crap that spews from her mouth.

Just remember: it would be the reps from Illinois and New York City ( the folks with the most national power!) that would be writing the criteria for the permits! They should, they have soooo much experience with handling handgun permits back home! It's a state power, leave it to the states!

No, because 2A is currently interpreted as a limitation only on federal power; each state or commonwealth can do as it pleases, so residents of (and visitors to) CA, HI, IL, NJ, WI, and some others, have severely restricted or no carry rights.

So you like not being able to carry legally in several other states you may want to visit... I don't.

Nor do I think a federal law mandating some standard of reciprocity is desirable. A couple of cases in the system now, if they reach SCOTUS, offer the best way. Once 2A is incorporated against the states via 14A, the road will be open to eventual Vermont-style carry everywhere.
