I just received this from a retired LEO. I'm not sure how valid it is but I'd rather be wrong than not share it with the forum.
If a MODERATOR or anyone else is aware that this is no longer valid please delete or post.

Anyone familiar with this piece of Socialistic crap?
I did a search for this bill on this forum and came up empty so I thought I'd post it. Better to at least be sure that we are aware and our newbies know about it too.

Time to make a noise.
This administration has no respect for law or our constitution.

We can't let them have their way with this.

Subject: SB 2099

HOW ABOUT THIS ONE BOYS AND GIRLS??? ABSOLUTELY MIND BOGGLING --AND SEEMINGLY NO END IN SIGHT.

Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 1040 federal tax form all guns that you have or own. It may require fingerprints and a tax of $50 per gun.
The bill was introduced on Feb. 24th and will become public knowledge 30 days after it is voted into law.. This is an amendment to the Internal Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance Committee can pass this without the Senate voting on it at all.
The full text of the proposed amendment is on the U.S. Senate homepage.
You can find it by doing a search by the bill number, SB-2099 at ron.dotson.net/guns/sb2099.htm0
You know whom to call; I strongly suggest you do. Please send a copy of this e-mail to every gun owner you know to help.
STOP this bill !!

I don't know how many out there are past the red alert in their minds but people we are in deep danger of being totally a sicialist gov. before the next election and if not then I don't see a lot of the people that voted this administration in getting too smart. I am truly afraid for what my grandkids will know as the USA by the time they grow up.

God Bless Us, He is the only one who can change the hearts of our leaders and the blind ones that follow.

Zephaniah - The Holy Bible - King James Version1:17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, ... he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

I understand this is a Hoax,.. But I agree with this post,. Remember the old saying,. Give enough rope, and people will get hung,. I see the government being lax right now, but setting up for dispare,. God help this country.. Keep alert at all times, and don't fret it,. God is still in control, but we need to be ready when the time comes..

I keep hearing that but I'm curious, like what ? The last time that I recall losing rights was the Patriot Act (so called) .

Sorry, jframe38, but you really, really should check bogus emails like this before you pass them on. It's a hoax.

snopes.com: Handgun Safety and Registration Act

As you'll see from the Snopes like, there was a bill introduced in 2000 that contained some of the elements described, but it died in committee without ever a prayer of passage.

And, fear mongering to the contrary, bills don't become law without a vote.

A couple of minutes fact-checking goes a long way toward dispelling hoaxes.

Even if it weren't a hoax, I don't own any handguns. I transferred ownership of all my handguns to my cat. I even have a signed receipt from him, although his paw print is a little smudged. :danceban:

The worst part of this is that the best way to respond to a bad bill is to contact your representative. That normally entails getting the basic facts about the bill in question. If you do that, you find out if THE THING IS FREAKING REAL OR NOT. Instead, people would rather rush to their computer and pound on the keyboard. In the meantime, you end up painting all gun owners as paranoid idiots who can't even take 30 seconds to look up a bill online.

Aside from all that, the thing is ridiculous on its face, you shouldn't even need to look it up to know it's fake. How the He*l could anyone who got out of middle school believe this: "This means that the Finance Committee can pass this without the Senate voting on it at all." Hello, someone not pass basic civics? Good god.

Let's Close This Thread

OK we can close this thread and I'm sorry that I posted a hoax. I just wasn't sure.
However I have a feeling that we might see something like this in the future. I'm thinking maybe not this term but if he gets elected for a second term. Thanks for everyone's posts on this issue.
