Families, Va. Tech victims oppose gun measure
Some of the survivors and families of the victims of the deadly Virginia Tech shootings are appealing to Sens. Mark Warner and Jim Webb to reject a proposed national standard for carrying concealed weapons.
In a full-page ad in Monday's Richmond Times-Dispatch, about 30 families and individuals urged the two Democrats to vote against the so-called Thune concealed carry amendment.
Sponsored by South Dakota Sen. John Thune, the amendment would allow people licensed to carry concealed weapons in their home state to legally carry their weapons in other states.
The ad contends the amendment would allow residents from states with weak laws on concealed weapons to bring their handguns into Virginia.
Tech student Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people before committing suicide on April 16, 2007.

They want fewer people able to defend against amoral murderers. Simply amazing.

I think that they are making a point that the laws should be left to the state. Not the federal govt to make. I agree. Although this could also be liberal sheep talk as well. Not sure at this point.

Although I do agree with you, I don't think THEY have that point in mind. They are against Concealed Carry both nationally AND locally.

Sorry, to us locals it is VT for Virginia Tech. Real schools of higher education use different initials, like UVA for instance.

The Ironic thing is if legally concealed handgun owners were allowed to carry on campus It's very likely some of their kids would be alive today, but that is something they will never be able to wrap their brains around,if cho had killed people with an axe they wouldn't be against people owning axes

They make an excellent point.
Until you consider that CRIMINALS DON'T APPLY FOR CCWs!!

Only employees and students (both of which agree to follow school polices) can't carry. I carry on campus from time to time. We had a meeting there where the employees and students wore empty holsters and the "outsiders" were armed -- many OCing.

I am neither an attorney-at-law nor I do play one on television or on the internet. No one should assumes my opinion is legal advice.

Well, maybe the originator should have specified
"Va Tech", and not "VT", which for about 99% of the US population, stands for "Vermont".
