Based on Christie's responses to Hannity I would not be holding my breath for any positive change to the guns laws in NJ. Proof positive that just having an (R) behind you name doesn't necessarily mean Pro 2A.

    That would be my bet.

Reversal of fortune rarely ever occurs with politics in general, never mind active attempt to do so by a politician who operates largely on power exchange and accumulation of chits.

I would not be jumping up and down if I were in NJ thinking yeah in months or a year things will chaaaaangee.

I think Dave Kopel put it best:

"By far the most prominent gun control advocate on the ballot this year was Jon Corzine (F). This summer, Corzine twisted lots of legislative arms to win enactment of gun rationing (“one-handgun-a-month”), a silly law that is even sillier in New Jersey, where every handgun purchase requires advance permission from the local police chief. With Christie replacing Corzine, New Jersey gun owners can hope for benign neglect rather than active hostility. The New Jersey Assembly appears to be unchanged. "

Hannity: “Should every citizen in your state be allowed to get a licensed weapon if they want one?”

Christie: “In New Jersey, that’s not going to happen, Sean.”

    Hannity: “Why?”

Christie: “Listen, with the Democratic Legislature that we have, there is no way those type of things –”

Maybe have the attorney general back off if and when a 2A lawsuit hits NJ after McDonald.

New Jersey has always been a hard-left liberal state.

    Here's one example:

N.J. Court Says Americans Have No Right To Buy Handguns - Taking Liberties - CBS News

N.J. Court Says Americans Have No Right To Buy Handguns

    Quote:
A New Jersey appeals court has concluded that Americans have no Second Amendment right to buy a handgun.

In a case decided last week, the superior court upheld a state law saying that nobody may possess "any handgun" without obtaining law enforcement approval and permission in advance.

That outcome might seem like something of a surprise, especially after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled last year in the D.C. v. Heller case that the Second Amendment guarantees "the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation."

But New Jersey Appellate Division Judge Stephen Skillman wrote on behalf of a unanimous three-judge panel that Heller "has no impact upon the constitutionality of" the state law.

That's because, Skillman said, the Supreme Court did not strike down the District of Columbia's de facto handgun ban but instead simply ordered the city to issue a permit. In other words, while Americans may have the right in general to possess arms, the exact contours of that right have not been mapped, especially as the Second Amendment applies to state laws. (The court's majority opinion last year said: "We therefore assume that petitioners' issuance of a license will satisfy respondent's prayer for relief and do not address the licensing requirement.")

Look for the Supreme Court to revisit this question in a few months when it hears a case called McDonald v. Chicago. It's a constitutional challenge to Chicago's restrictive gun laws, which prohibit anyone from possessing firearms -- even in their homes -- "unless such person is the holder of a valid registration certificate for such firearm."

NJ gunowners should not expect much from Christie. He is opposed to concealed carry.

Not entirely true. The governor can use his office and his access to the press as a bully pulpit to pressure the legislature to move for something he wants. Cf: Corzine pressuring the legislature to pass the "one gun a month" bill he wanted.

A governor (or POTUS) can do one of 3 things:

    1. Be actively anti-RKBA, like Corzine or Bill Clinton, and push for gun control.
    2. Be indifferent and do nothing, like GWB. Given the timing of the AWB sunset, that was sufficient.
    3. Be actively pro-RKBA and push for repeal of gun control (frankly, I have a hard time naming anyone like this).

For the new NJ governor, I predict '2.'

I would say that Reunite On Ice will be served in Hell before citizens in NJ will be able to legally carry for personal protection.

But,.....then again I never thought I would see a bulldog give birth to 21 puppies and I just saw that on TV last night.

    So...anything is possible.
