    North Carolina legislation

Hey, I'm new to the site and was searching around looking at different topics when I came across a thread that ended in June or July discussing some new legislation in NC.

The thread stated something about a committee might try to kill it but the senate had already passed it? Does anybody have any updates on this? I have found North Carolina has some dumb CC laws, such as parades and funerals and paid admission events. Just wondering if anything was trying to be done about it.

    Welcome...

    from Central Florida!

I understand that a NC permit allows you to carry in your home.

In reality, you can carry just about anywhere, just don't act like a jerk and you are fine.

Took my CHP class about 2 weeks ago. The way NC laws are written is ridiculous. In my opinion, the laws are worded in a manner which almost limits the person carrying a concealed weapon to his own property. WE were told you can't even have a weapon in your car if you are in the drive line of a school, we were told "drop your kids off then go back home and get your gun". Hospital property or any place deemed an educational facility is restricted in the same way.

I had 25 people in my class, and after the 8 hours of watching videos and listening to the instructor speed read through the little red handbook, the majority of us where left wondering why we were even bothering with paying our fee's ($190 class and permit application) for our CHP in the first place.

The only advantage I see in getting my permit was it allows me to transport my weapon without fearing that I will be breaking the ambiguous open carry laws on my way back and forth to the range. Our so called right to bear arms laws make me want to

All of the legislation that was aimed at improving concealed carry in NC got hogtied and died in committees. Make sure to write your reps and ask that they push for it next session.

Take a look at GRNC's (Grass Roots North Carolina) website they track current legislation and provide alerts of pending legislation. They are our primary lobbing group working to pass legislation to rid us of some of the nonsensical provisions on the books currently. All of us in North Carolina should be members.

Thanks for the info. What was the name of the bill so that I can reference it when writing my representatives?

Deborah Ross (D-Wake County) is the one who held it up in committee. There are actually 2 bills she's blocked - one for restaurant carry, and one for castle doctrine. GRNC has that info, plus, it's been discussed here. Also, you might want to check out Carolina Shooter's Forum - I know it's been discussed there, too.

There were several but here is one that was a consolidation of many.

North Carolina General Assembly - House Bill 1241 Information/History (2009-2010 Session)

You can search on the nc leg web site, just look for "concealed handgun" to get you started for the other bills. The numbers will change the next session so you can refer to the 2009-2010 session numbers when you write your reps.

I carry everywhere I go except banks, liqour establishments, post offices, schools, and governemt buildings. I never see a sign prohibiting my carry elsewhere. I have never had a problem when stopped by LEOs. North Carolina may not be perfect, but it isn't all that bad either.
