I contacted my congressman, now what?

How often should I do that and who else should I email? What else can I do? Organize petition signing? I want to do more to fight for my gun rights than just giving money to organizations.

Write letters to the editor. Join the Tea Party movement. Don't give money to folks that are basically against you politically (e.g., AARP).

    Run for political office yourself.

Those who fight have a choice. They can help fund the org's that do the actual fighting or they can be one of those on the front lines by holding an elected office.

Learn your state's schedule for bill submission, and know what bills are being considered in a session of your state's legislature. Don't just write, MEET your state-level representatives and TALK with them about your concerns and which bills you, personally, support or oppose and why. Learn your state's gun-related laws and propose changes to your state-level representatives.

Consider joining one or more of the following groups and be active in your state:
    Gateway Civil Liberties Alliance
    Second Amendment Coalition of Missouri
    Western Missouri Shooters Alliance

There is a pro-gun rally on the capital grounds in April (April 29, 2010, I think). You can be there.

There is a lot you can do from where you are. I know it feels helpless, sometimes. You don't have to be part of a group to be active, but being part of a group gives you more options and helps you remain informed. You can be active by yourself and with a group. Google "gun rights missouri" and see what falls out. I'm sure you can think of other searches to try that might help you connect.

Do the same things locally. I'm active at the local, state and federal levels with my representatives. You can be, too.

So just what is it they say that you disagree with?

What is it that you believe?

Sorry I should not have even acknowledged the statment since I know that political discussions are prohibited.

Uhoh, I'm in a lot of trouble then.

If you are not a student of history, I would also suggest studying up on the founding of our nation, especially the founders' philosophy of natural rights.
