Hello all! I wanted to take a minute and introduce myself. My name is Ryan and I go under the board name Sarge43. I truly enjoy working with exotic woods and have been making custom furniture, jewelry boxes, jewelry, pens, and many other items in wood for years now as a hobby. Long story short, I now make grip panels in exotic woods. At the present time I am confined to 1911 and variants, but in the next two months I plan on branching out into just about anything and everything else from single action revolvers to P7 squeezecockers and everything in between.
As I write this, they have me under "The Finer Grain" but hopefully that will shortly be changed to simply "Sarge's Grips".

I got into grips after being horrified at the fit to the frame that stock grips have. All of my grips are hand fit to my own pistols and as such just fit better. If you have a bobtail (Ed Brown Kobra Carry, Dan Wesson CBOB etc) I think you'll REALLY notice a difference. I don't simply chop off material to make my grips into bobtails, I shape and round each panel to actually fit the weapon. The result is that there are NO corners to gouge or dig - everything is rounded, smooth and totally comfortable to shoot or carry. Of course, besides the fit and finish, the beauty of the woods I use is paramount. Exotic woods from all over the world can be seen on my site and I encourage you to stop by and view them. If nothing else, enjoy the wild beauty contained in the pics. I am always bringing in new woods and materials, so the grips on the site that are available are constantly rotating and changing. Wood, Natural Ivory (coming soon), even natural and 50,000 year old Woolly Mammoth tooth grips are there for viewing and purchase. I am not an assembly line. I have my own shop and build my own grips. My son is now making some pistol stands and putting them on the site, but other than that, it's just me. I take great pride in what I do and truly want my customers to be happy in every aspect of their experience with me.

Very nice Sarge, you are a true craftsman. My background is in arboriculture and I really appreciate exotic woods, those burly Box Elder grips are sweet. People around here think of Box Elders (Ash Leaf Maple) as junk trees that attract bugs, we both know of the treasures locked up in the trunks.

There are many beautiful woods in the world. I'm trying to make it though many of them in my lifetime. Still probably won't even make a dent in what's possible out there.

Question for Sarge43? Do you have model gun or gun grips that you work off of? How do you Mold and shape without the gun present? I not likely that some with ship you a gun to work with? Just basic inquiry.
