Private establishments have the right to ask you not bring weapons inside. They own the property and they have rights as private owners to do what they wish on their property. There is a fine line between violating private property rights and rights to self defense. You have as much a right not to spend money and enter their establishments as they to to bar you from entering with a firearm. Do we really want the government to continue to encroach on our private property rights and tell us what we can and cannot do on them? I see a no firearms sign I simply take my money elsewhere.
As far as tax payer funded public establishments like schools, libraries, parks, government buildings, etc.... they should NOT be encroaching on our right to defend ourselves.
Somewhat dated, unless it's been revised since I got my copy back in the 80's, but still about the best ever written on the subject, or at least the best I've ever read.
Plus the fact that in FL I can't sit at the bar and drink a coke to socialize. I have to disarm completely. Plus schools and other locations where I'm not allowed to be. Schools get me more than anything. I'm walking around kids at walmart, the mall, the drug store, wendy's, grocery stores but they think I'm going to shoot up a school?
Besides all the places where criminals can carry but I cannot, the differences in regulations from state to state gives me a great pain in the rear.
On the bright side, since I do not go where I cannot carry I save bundles of money I would otherwise have spent. I also rarely travel outside of my state, and when I do I go no further north than Virginia, saving even more money.
That most people carrying a gun think they have a clue about what they are doing, but are carrying a pistol cahmber empty with the safety on, a ccw badge in their pocket and the magazine is filled as follows:
Glazer for the first 3 rounds
Low recoil hydrashock for the next 3
Then alternating 1:1 of 115 grain Ball ammo with 124 grain Ranger T
Because "If I end up in a gun fight, I want to make sure that I don't have shoot through with my first rounds. Then, once the people around realize their is a gunfight going on, I want to make sure I get the bad guy with something I can shoot rapidly.
If I don't get him with the first or second burst, he may be behind cover, so I will use a mix of ball and JHP to go through the cover, and shoot him in a way that will stop him - because shooting to kill is wrong..."
That...and the I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6 mentality, when with a little more education and training you could kill then CLEAN and not have to worry about 12 or 6...but it's too much trouble to learn anything...
Um all of the above and what will come after this post. azchevy has a very good point about private property, the best we could hope for is for people to get over their fear of guns. We certainly don't need more laws.
* Reciprocity
Or as noted by another the lack there of, forcing me to pay hundreds of literal dollars to posses multiple permits/licenses.
* Laws
The laws here in MA as related to carry in specific toward allowance of where & when, are IMHO the best thing going and should be the same nationwide. I'd co-opt in VAs allowance toward carry as around school grounds during business hours toward pick-up & drop-off of children...And I'd be pleased as punch.
Go elsewhere in America though and half the things I do here while carrying I cannot do or am restricted much of elsewhere.
For example I carry into bars, pool halls and bowling alleys even as I don't drink. I regularly and carry into restaurants & eateries that serve alcohol and sit with my family and guests as they drink and I don't have to worry about legality. I carry to sporting fields when I take my daughter to t-ball. I carry into theaters and other places of 'public gathering'. I carry into police stations when there on business (I've carried into meetings on two occasions with local police chiefs at their offices). I've carried into a hospital and birthed my son that way while armed (concealed). I carry into public librarys and to the bank, as well as into places of worship. I've carried into nightclubs and strip clubs too. I carry into city & town govt. buildings and have attended meetings with the mayor as well as stood to make a public presentation on video before town counsel with the chief of police sitting next to me as I was carrying a gun, knife and OC on my person upon walking in off the street. And I can and on occasion do carry on to other peoples private residential property although as a general rule of my own I make the choice to not do so and will disarm in my car or just not go there armed at all. I can carry into business of any sort and there is no '30.06' type legal allowance/recognition here so I can willfully ignore those type signs by corporations (i.e. Whole Foods) without concern.
I'm not even required to notify a LEO during a stop, although by my own rule I do so voluntarily...Except for just once.
This is MA. Completely lawful conditions of carry.
If I go outside of MA though, the rules vary and in areas do so dramatically. Which sucks. : |

Don't feel like ALL other states are more restrictive, there are a few good ones, like Utah, all things in your list are legal in Utah, along with MANY more things/places restricted by many/most states.
Besides my relatively new home state of Florida, the 2 states I spend the most time in are Illinois and Wisconsin, neither of which allow CC. I can carry all the way to IL. than have to disarm for the next 5 months. What a crock!
The weight of the gun on my belt
When I started carrying, in the 80's, I couldn't feel it, after 8880 days it is getting heavier each year. :image035:
I think I didn't word/write my thoughts well. I wasn't accusing you of saying that. Just reminding everyone that there are gun-friendly places to live/visit.
Mass. can't be all bad.....you guys elected Mitt Romney as Governor. I'm a huge Mitt fan.
That my Permit does not allow me to lawfully carry on federal property, in schools (where there appears to be a lack of self defense capability when BG decides that the rules no longer apply to him) and that there is no way that I will ever be able to visit family in NY state while in posession of my, legally owned, firearm.
Being mostly surrounded by states that we don't have reciprocity with forcing us to get non-res permits from other states. At least West Virginia likes us.
Btw...obxned, you can come up a bit farther north, we don't mind y'all a bit. Btw, you can count our restrictions on one hand and have a few fingers left over.
I'm pretty sure its been aforementioned, but I'll still say it.
(In no order)
-Having to disarm for certain places
-That its a PISTOL permit, not a concealed WEAPONS permit. Sometimes I think I'd love to conceal something other than my trusty S&W or p3at.
-The trend more and more towards "posted" places. In Va we don't have 30.06 signs, but theres alot of places with "No concealed weapons" or "No weapons" signs, its a trespassing offence. But still a criminal offense.
-That I get paranoid when it rains because I don't want it to get wet!
Although I don't travel all that much, reciprocity, complex TSA and airline regs, and inconsistency among state laws including the ones with reciprocity, all combine to make an out of state travel experience something that requires more research and preparation than necessary.
Beyond reciprocity, the most frustrating thing I find is the present ammo shortage in .380.
Finding a way to carry 100% concealed under the following requirements:
Dress shirt--must be tucked in
Dress slacks--must fit reasonably well.
Must be able to remain secret for a full day under intense scrutiny by curious young females with wandering eyes, in an office type environment.
That's tough! and Frustrating!
