The general 2012 legislative session is fast drawing to a close.

Sen Smith's SB 663 (Voter identification requirements; concealed handgun permits as acceptable form of identification) has finally been signed by the House Speaker and Senate President.

Only Del Pogge's HB 375 (Firearms; workplace rule by locality that prevents storing in motor vehicle, etc. ) remains outstanding.

All other RKBA and firearm related bills are dead, carried over to next year or headed to the Governor for signature.

FYI: In Virginia. we have short annual general legislative sessions. After they are over, only special sessions to deal with specific "emergency" issues can be called.

Del Pogge's HB 375: UPDATE

Del Pogge's parking lot bill has been reported from Conference Committee, and has been passed by both houses. :hand10:

Three signatures to go (the Speaker of the House, the President of the Senate and the Governor) and it will be law. :danceban:

[Re-posted from a VA-ALERT with prior approval of VCDL]

[First person singular pronouns (I, my, mine, etc) and “PVC” reference Philip Van Cleave, President VCDL]

HB 375, Delegate Pogge's bill to allow employees of local government and it's agencies and authorities to store firearms in their locked, private vehicles while at work, has just passed the House (71 to 27) and the Senate (26 to 13)! The bill now heads to the Governor's desk for his signature. If he signs the bill, it will become effective on July 1.

A big thanks to Delegate Pogge for carrying and fighting for this important bill for VCDL!

This is the first of three steps in restoring some semblance of the 2nd Amendment to those of us in the workforce.

Step two, hopefully next year, will be to do the same for state government employees.

Step three, hopefully in 2 years, will do the same for those who work for private employers.

DaveH, here Re: doing "the same for those who work for private employers."

As a daily CCer, that would be great. However, given Virginia's strong commitment to the rights of private property owners, I have strong reservations.
