I'm interested in knowing the history of open and concealed carry laws around the country. It's easy enough to see what's on the books now, but I've no idea when most laws were put into action, and what was the law before then?
Just my idle curiosity.
While the Image above shows how Carry rights are being restored, it does not go back far enough to show how it got that way in the frist place.
Its not ahistory of CCW laws but a history of Gun Control laws. Remember, Gun ownership and the right to carry (bear) arms is a RIGHT that has been legislated away.
Thanks for the info, interesting reading.
What I'm specifically looking for is before carry permits were issued (as shown on the handgunlaw map), what was the law? Carry for LEOs only? Open carry but no concealed? I know it will be different for different states, but any ideas?
Before 1911 there were no laws regarding firearms, you could carry open or otherwise. It wasn't a good idea to carry open but there were generally no laws against it. In 1911 New York passed a law that guns small enough to be concealed had to be registered, but did not prevent the carrying of them.
