    Naa-22m

Yesterday I took my granny's 100 year old pistol to a gun shop where I have purchased before. Asked for cartridges for the pistol. Was immediately told I needed to upgrade (no duh); also told "don't fire that thing, especially with those bullets". It is such a nice little gun and fits in my pocket so well that I am disappointed not to be able to carry it. Guy showed me several pocket guns and I liked the North American Arms NAA-22M. Does anyone have an opinion on this gun? It is just the right size for my pocket or my purse. Would be interested in feedback before I consider a purchase. Thank you.

If you want something for a purse look at the keltec or ruger products. The ruger 380 has a safety and the kel Tec don't. Any u could move up to a smith 642 in 38 special. Those three are excellent little pocket pistols. If ur recoil shy kel Tec has a 32 acp just like the 380. These pistols I just talked abt use center fire bullets which are much more reliable and powerful then the 22. That said I also have a NAA 22 mag pistol that I carry as a backup to my 38.
Some people will start trouble and then try to make it look like its your fault....

Although there may be better/other/different options, everyone has different preferences and needs.

Speaking specifically to the NAA 22 mag, its awesome. For something that size, the .22 mag is a monster of a load. It's a great "stick it in his eye" gun. It's also a gun you will carry with you at all times, since its not much bigger than lip balm. I've shot it, and have to warn you, that sucker kicks like a mule. It's extremely snappy and loud for something so cute. I would make sure you are ok with that if you plan to carry it. I've seen the result of someone shot with an NAA 22 mag. At close personal defense ranges, it's pretty darn effective. Many people will knock a .22, especially out of a 1" barrel. It's a close contact gun, nothing more. It does its job extremely well.

The build quality is awesome. It feels very solid, and the movements "click" with no free play. It feels like a very expensive gun. It's really fun to take apart, clean, put back together.....if for no other reason than to actually feel the quality, and hear the clicks as it operates. I dunno...its just a gun thats fun to fondle

I think its a great option, but in limited circumstances. I dont carry one, and I wont carry one, but for some people its the perfect gun. I'm sure plenty of people will chime in to give you examples of "what you should get instead", so i'll leave that alone. If you do pick one up though, you wont regret it. It's a really neat little gun with a very specific purpose.

Thank you for your input. I had asked the merchant about recoil, it being a short barrel. He said there wasn't much but his hand was the size of a bear paw. My go to gun is a sig p-226 but it is just too big for my purse. My Ruger LC9 is a bit smaller and lighter but I really want something to shove into my pocket, an up close get out of my face/space weapon, should things come to a confrontation. I liked the little NAA 22mag and was just wondering what others thought of it.

FWIW, I really like the NAA revolvers. I have lots of other guns, bigger guns, more powerful fun, etc, however the little Black Widow model of theirs is rarely out of my pocket. It sometimes ends up being the third gun I carry, but it's almost always with me, no matter what else is. Would I call it a primary weapon? probably not, though the ballistics of the .22 magnum are pretty impressive. The single actin mechanism is a little slower than any DA revolver or auto, but that's not really the point. If you like it, and it makes sense to you....go with it!

If you are used to a 226, the NAA will be an eye opener. The 226 is a light shooting pistol. The NAA is stout. Everyones idea of recoil is different. It depends on the size / shape of your hand, and just your tolerence in general. Just keep in mind that the actual energy transferred to your hand is only part of the equation. The NAA does not lend itself to a good grip, and you are essentially taking the recoil hit on a much smaller part of your hand. Shoot before you buy if you can. If not, you can always sell it to me if you dont like it

Thanks I'm going to think on it, but I appreciate your input. Mine is a slight hand but I think in an emergency situation up close I wouldn't notice the recoil until later. No chance to fire it first. Wish there were more places to do that. Makes sense to me to try out a weapon before purchase. Just not many places here to do so.

My main concern would be cocking that little thing in a fight.

.22 Mag is nothing to sneeze at...but are you going to be able to hit them in the right spot at night in a badly lit area when you are scared and startled? What if five rounds isn't enough? I think the NAA is a great little gun for a BUG to a BUG or if you absolutely cannot conceal anything else, but as a primary it leaves A LOT to desire.

My recommendation (which you could take with a grain of salt) is to look at something like the Ruger LCP. Seven rounds of .380 as fast as you can squeeze the trigger with quick reloads and it is still lightweight (9oz unloaded) and rather small.

If you look at my avatar you'll see my NAA Pug next to one of my semi-autos. I love this litte gun. It shoots straight and hard. I always have this little monster with me either as a primary or a backup. I also have the NAA 22mag with a 1 1/2 inch barrel and it is very accurate for a litte gun. At 20 feet I can consistantly keep my shots in a 5 inch group. These are not for bullseye shooting but they can give you piece of mind. The Pug fits perfectly in the change pocket of my blue jeans. You'll love it if you get one.
