Okay, look at this from a tactical standpoint. When you engage multiple targets how do you choose which one to handle FIRST?
Usually it's distance from you to them. Closer is obviously more of a threat. The caveat is if one that's a bit further out is better armed than the rest. So the guy with the sawed off is a greater threat than the guy with the 22 revolver (all other factors being equal), so you take the proper action which may mean run!
Now let's just take another factor that makes concealed carry a greater advantage over open carry. There are gangs out there that are volunteering members to join the military and volunteer for combat. They keep their word and stay clean during basic and AIT. Then they go to war and do the job right (but Baghdad is covered in gang tags).
When they get back to the 'hood, they train the rest of the gang in the real deal: Tactics that work to kill the enemy. If they'll work on the AQ, they'll work on the cops and they'll work on you. These folks won't be deterred by the sight of a weapon. In fact if you think any punk with any arrest history is going to be scared of you just because you're armed, you are in for a sad dose of reality.
The only punks who'll turn tail and run are those who've never really been upstate to prison. Most of the real bad boys are soldiers to evil.
How do I know? I'm a former State of Florida Parole and Probation Officer and I have it directly from the horses mouth, so to speak.
My experience was in the 1980s. Imagine how much worse it's gotten. I can. I'm still in contact with a few of my buddies who went the full stretch in the Dept and retired, recently. I've spoken to the good guy soldiers who've fought along the gang bang contingent serving in the sand. I did the math and it comes out that one of the few real advantages is not disclosing you're armed when you confront the punks who're serious about
