Weapons laws can be tricky, they can be very different from state to state and also from municipality to municipality.
Some states have full preemption, which means that the state law trumps any municipal law. Some states don't have preemption or only have partial preemption.
I don't know about Ohio, but as an example, a state that has no preemption could allow a concealed knife with a 6" blade by state law, but the town you're in may have a dumb law that only allows blades under 1". This could be the problem in the situation that started this thread.
