Those little Tasers are garbage.
You do not want one for yourself or as a gift, the company that produces them doesn't want you to have one and will not let you use it after you have bought it UNTIL you get their permission.
Read the literature carefully in regards to ANY Taser product. YOU CAN NOT GET THE SAME PRODUCT AS A POLICEMAN CARRIES.
You can however buy a S&W or a Colt/Sig/Glock and get the exact same thing a policeman carries. Why the reference to LE? Because it is proven to be an effective tool. It is made more effective by the tactics and teamwork of the officers who use these tools. Most LE agencies have strict policies regarding the use of Tasers including that of supporting the device with lethal force (just in case).
The most common concealed weapon is a small frame revolver.
Why? because it will (should) not jam when used in contact with a bad guy. Why would you say it is an advantage to have a standoff distance with a taser when most prepared individuals come ready for a fight to be close - real close. I do not see this as an advantage.
Finally, ask yourself this; Would you carry a single shot pistol for self defense? If you answer is like mine, then ask why you would give your significant other a single shot Taser. I trust my better half with a firearm and more importantly I have invited her many times to a self defense class/continuing training beyond her CCW permit.
