I'm certainly no constitutional lawyer but these things have to be unconstitutional. I told a LEO that at a road check down in South Carolina. Of course they couldn't care less. Come on LEO's chime in. Our rights are being trampled in order to:

1. Stop drunks
2. Catch illegal aliens
3. What else?

These aren't "safety checks" or DL checks or anything else other than the illegal stopping of people on public byways without a hint of probable cause. Welcome to the new America where your rights have been flushed down the toilet.
