I am the poster child for "Rust-out" (opposite of burn-out). They call me a Paramedic. In reality, I sit around my rural EMS station for 60 hours each week (M-F, 0600-1800), on the computer, watching TV, sleeping, taking walks around town. Once or twice a week we'll actually fire up the ambulance and go see a patient. About half of our contacts even result in a trip to the hospital! Of course I've been there and done that for a long time, so I am enjoying my semi retirement.
Former Critical Care transport Paramedic, ED tech, wheelchair van driver, security officer, deputy, correctional officer, retail sales, grocery clerk, and my favorite: ditch digger (everything they say about that job is true).
