I've shot a Vang Comp 870 with Choate pistol-gripped, fixed shoulder stock (& forearm) for years. Even with a Vang back-bored, ported, lengthened forcing-cone, cylinder bore 18" barrel, full-power 3" loads still kick me like a rented mule (I suspect because of poor stock fit or design). I was, even today, looking at the variety of Knoxx models trying to decide which best suited my needs.
The CompStock, with its "traditional" look, is my preference. Some of the top Social Shotgun instructors recommend more conventional (non-pistol gripped) stocks to their students for natural pointability. However, length-of-pull on a Social Shotgun is usually a bit shorter than on a Sporting Shotgun for handling speed in close quarters (indoors, etc.). What's the LOP on a 870 Compstock (before compression)? Can it be shortened to perhaps "youth length"? What's the weight increase between the Remington factory synthetic stock & the CompStock? I've also seen a "Gunsmith" model CompStock that looked like the recoil-device (only) for installation into an existing stock. Are they made to retrofit the Remington synthetic?
Thanks for welcoming our questions & joining-in around here!

The LOP on the CompStock is nominally 13.5 inches. I am not a believer in the short stock theory unless you are wearing body armor or a tactical vest (the reason SWAT Team members use short stocks) or have very short arms. If you do need a shorter stock, the SpecOps offers adjustments from 11.5 to 15.5 inches.
The CompStock kit is for fitment into an existing stock. The CompStock replacement stock is a much less expensive way to go in the long run.
