Regardless, I was told that I was there to defend democracy not to practice it every time I asked about something like that. I figured since I signed the contract they had me on that one. But, as a civillian, you're not under their oppressive contract so you should feel free to dig to the bottom.

Someone was blowing smoke up your tail pipe, Echo_Four. The oath you take is "....defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic..." not to defend democracy. I am still subject to recall as I am retired, but it is a big stretch to call me back because I run up the BS flag on the CMC. Also, thanks for the complement, but I hate DC, so I would have never been in the office as CMC....but that is a good thing. The current CMC sounds like that is all he has ever accompished was get his x in the block and run back to DC.
I can't believe that we can't trust our Marines with weapons...I absolutely disagree with that view. In 21 years in the Corps, it NEVER crossed my mind that they shouldn't have free access to their weapons. Alcohol was another hot button topic for me. If I can trust them with my life, I can trust them to have a cocktail. The ones that violate that trust you deal with.
