George,

I don't know why I haven't posted on this thread before.

I was Baptised 6 years ago (at the age of 30) and now I am teaching Sunday school and thinking about becoming a deacon in the (Roman) Catholic Church.

My journey to Christ I guess begin at my birth but I didn't realize it until I was in graduate school. I was unchurched growing up, I only went to church with my grandmother occasionally. When I was in graduate school I became aware of a hole in my life. It was just this nagging feeling that something was missing. I had friends and parties and I was very popular with my students etc... just something was missing.

I realized one day that it was God that was missing from my life. So being the scienctist that I am a went and studied different Christian denominations. I don't know when but some time in the past I had decided that Christ was my personal saviour and I did not consider non-Christian religons.

I went to sevearl (it seems like all) of the churches in Jacksonville were I was going to school. I went to all these churches multiple times. The second time I went to the Catholic Church the preist Father Bill cornered me and asked why I was there and if I had any questions. Boy did I, I was familar with the Protestant religons but had no clue what was going on in a Catholic mass.

Well he explained things to me, and whenever he saw me in church again (I kept rotating churches trying to find one for me) he would spend 30 minutes to an hour talking with me and answering my questions.

Father Bill told me that he was starting a Catechism class for adults that would go over in more detail some of the things I was asking, and much more. There was no pressure to join the church just a fact finding mission. So on September 10th 2001 I went to my first Catechism class. I was baptised the following Easter and have been active in the church ever since. I met my wife while attending Catechism (she wasn't in the class just met her during the time) and I married her 2 years later.

Well that was long and probably no one will read the whole thing but that is my short form of my journey to Christ.

Darryl
