I have not shot many AR's, and am only in the process of purchasing my first. But, nicely, my arms are of the knuckle-draggin' variety (ie, they're long). The adjustable stock at full length (6th position) is perfect for standard shooting, given standard clothing. Two clicks in (4th position) enables wearing my thickest coat, and I wouldn't have to worry about that position except in the field or on the range. So, for me, the downside to a defensive AR's stock needing to quickly be altered doesn't apply, and the advantages for more-permanent storage and transportability are worth the added cost. For me: worth it.
