Big Pockets is right!!
I was just traveling on vacation and just held an M & P compact for the first time. What ranger and plblark wrote is correct, the pockets would have to be really big and I think you would have a difficult time keeping the pistol from printing. It is a compact pistol as opposed to full size but by no means would I consider it a "pocket" pistol.
In my experience, the only compact size gun that I've been able to effectively carry in the pocket w/o printing has been the Smith & Wesson J-frame snubnose revolvers. Something about the shape of the revolver lends itself to blending in.
If you want to pocket carry an auto, you're probably better of with something quite a bit smaller, maybe a kel-tec, bersa, or maybe a small beretta, although the j-frame is usually a little more effective in caliber.
