Id agree with Mark...buffing the leather and getting the oxidation off of it...after its done oxidizing completely is the most important step.
After that....Saddlelac or other sprays work pretty well. Use them lightly and give it a couple of layers, just to make sure you get good coverage.

I use fiebings resolene or Angelus Clear acrylic mixed with water...it works better.....but it may be more than you need.
