So the Dakota Defender arrived today. There are some pro's and con's when comparing it to the VMII.
1. Comfort- Both holsters are very comfortable and I would have to say that the dakota may be a little better because of how thin it is. In comparing this holster with the Milt Sparks Watch Six the Dakota Defender would win hands down in detail from what I have seen.
2. Ease of Holstering- Both are very easy to holster and draw and share very similar retention. The VMII will probably be easier for one-handed holstering in the future do to the reinforced mouth.
3. Detail- The dakota wins in the amount of detail that went into the holster. Every shape of the gun can be found in the holster including the slide. The VMII also shows alot of detail and has every amount of detail that is needed.
4. Trigger Guard- The VMII for sure has a more complete coverage of the trigger guard which is very important to me, especially with the Glock is the firearm in question. I had a similar lack of coverage on the trigger guard with the maverik defender. There is an improvement with the dakota and it covers the trigger well enough for carry but not as much as the VMII.
The kydex clips are very nice in the ease of putting on the holster but I still prefer to the leather straps. Kevin does have that option however this holster and if I was ordering directly from Kevin that would be my choice. The cant was perfect the way it came with the clips and clips hold everything in place just fine. I guess its the look that has an effect on the rest of quality leather. However the ability to have deep concealment is a plus. I had an order in with Kevin for a dakota defender for about a month now but after finding this one online I had to save myself the couple month more wait. I am going to go with the Loredo Defender when changing my order.
Both holsters are the best choice for leather IMO and both serve their purpose depending on season and attire. For the price and a couple month less wait time I would strongly suggest going with K&D holsters, K&D is a great choice and Kevin offers nothing but the best in customer service
