I would have been about 3' out, but unfortunately the blue barrels were only about 18" downrange of the pistol targets, and there was no space. In that close you have a much wider blind spot (160+ degrees) and a very narrow field of concealment for someone right in front of you - which is what you said, and I agree 100%. I was simply trying to make the best of the stage as it was.
You see here how close the targets were. If i were as far back as I wanted to be, I'd still be behind the wall that I shot the pistol targets from... but the fellow who laid out the stage said "this is your box, shoot from here" so we just went with it.
