My Federal Qualifications are easier than my last State Qual years ago, I'm sorry to say.
If you are wanting a "Standard" to train to look at attending a "School" like Gunsite, LFI or some other similar school. Another good way to train, and keep current in your practicing is to shoot various IPSC and IDPA matches.
LFI1 does a "Police Style" Qualification Course to graduate. If you have never shot a gun it's easier to teach you the proper methods,, I know from personal expirience both teaching and being a student.
Right now FLETC has taken some of the tactics from the games and has incorporated them in to their teachings. I shoot Weaver and have for years. When I was at FLETC I had one of the Instructors constantly kicking my foot as I was shooting, to get me in to the Iso position. In the real world I shoot Weaver, and have presented my weapon in Weaver more than once because that's how I train.
The game techniques work, no doubt about it, it's just that I'm "old school" and refuse to change what
works for me. When I qualify they don't care if I shoot Weaver or Iso, just that I pass since I'm no longer at FLETC. In short FLETC has taken the best of the games and real life results and tried to encorporate it in their teaching.
It is designed for people that don't have a lot of expirience and works very well. The problems come when you have expirienced shooters with years of expirience, like me, but even us "old dogs" can pass the test there I'm happy to say.
