I have a Mossy 500 and I kind of wish I would have gotten the 870. The ONLY reason I say so is because of the location of the safety on the 500. The safety is on top of the reciever. This isn't a problem with the standard stock, but if you plan on having a pistol grip of some sort, maybe something with a 6 position stock, the safety is kind of hard to get to. Where as the safety on the 870's is right on the trigger guard where it should be. Just my $0.02.
